first attempt Imperial

By Grevane, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Just started playing only got like 2 games under my belt but have a decent grasp on army building. I have two lists I came up with but not sure if they will work.

Soontir Fel

- Push the limit

- Autothrusters

Carnor Jax

- Expert Handling

- Autothrusters

Colonel Jendon

-ST-321

-Tactical Jammer (hide my 2 interceptors behind give them target locks)

- Rebel Captive

- Weapons Engineer

2 points for initiative

and the other build i like is

Commander Kenkirk

- Determination

- Rebel Captive

- Yasanne Isard

"Whisper"

- Advanced Cloaking Device

- Sensor Jammer

- Gunner

- Veteran Instincts or Lone Wolf I cant decide which is better.

Leaving 1 or 2 points for Initiative

Two ships seems kinda slim but the decimator is tanky and the phantom seems really annoying.

In the first list, Soontir is fine, but that Carnor is not going to survive. I get that you want to use Expert Handling to ditch target locks, so that your opponent never has modified attacks at Carnor (assuming he's within range 1), but if you use it, you will have unmodified green dice. And unmodified red dice > unmodified green dice more often than not, so it doesn't really help Carnor significantly.

Tactical Jammer is of limited value for interceptors. In fact, with Autothrusters, they are a bit superfluous. Besides, after the first round of shooting, the only thing your shuttle is going to do is get in your interceptors way, and if your interceptors bump and lose actions, they are dead.

Kagi has better synergy with Carnor Jax' ability. You might want to consider using him instead. Also, sensor jammer works even better when Carnor Jax is on the table. You may also want to consider an Engine Upgrade on your shuttle if you can spare the points...

Second List:

Kenkirk is probably the weakest of the Decimator pilots, imo. Chiraneau probably works best in a Deci-phantom list because you want to maximize your damage output and his ability really helps with that. However, regardless of who you use, an engine upgrade can be invaluable. It will avoid more damage than Ysanne Isard (although it can sometimes move you out of range for Chiraneau's ability if you are not careful).

Whisper wants Veteran Instincts. She is best when shooting first because then when she hits, she can always use her focus token on defense. Gunner + FCS is a great combo to achieve this and allows you to take a defensive action like evade or barrel roll (to dodge some arcs if need be).
