Gypsy and lasting Spells

By The_Warlock, in Talisman Rules Questions

Q: Can Gypsy take Spells cards like Hex and Barrier after another Character casts them? If yes, when does she get the Card?

Such Spells stay on the board until their effect ceases. Can Gypsy get them just when they go to the discard pile? Or are these Spells forbidden for some reason, i.e. because they're not "placed by a Character on the discard pile"?

Good question !

I think that that Gypsy can't get it because those 2 spell cards are placed on the board for 3 turns etc.

The Gypsy can't take the card after it's being cast..

I don't know, Gypsy card says when a character places a Spell in the discard she can take it. Nothing about the Spell being cast, so Magical Vortex could see her get her pick of all the Spells discarded. Additionally, I suppose even though a player actually does the removing of Hex or Barrier from the board, it still would count as a character discarding it. Not that I would really be tempted with either of those two Spells 99.9% of the time gui%C3%B1o.gif .

Oh my mistake.. happy.gif

Then i agree with Dam.

There is a slight difference (I think, too lazy to check) with Gypsy and Spell Call. Of course, in the last game the Gypsy was in, the Druid started with Strength Spell, so cha-ching for the Gypsy. Oh yeah, Gypsy started with Spell Call, so she got +2 Str on the first two turns of the game. She went on to win.

Yes, Spell Call works on a Spell that has just been cast (and in this case... can you take the Barrier/Hex?), including your own Spells. Gypsy ability allows the Gypsy to take a Spell that has been discarded by another Character.

The problem with the Gypsy is that her presence stops other Characters from casting Spells. If someone gets stuck with a Spell (as did the Wizard with Water Walking in the last game), then Gypsy will have big trouble. Wizard doesn't need the Spells to win, Gypsy does. I don't know why. Perhaps my Wizard Character Card has been blessed (or cursed) by some BI/FFG guru. Wizard is top winning Character since Black Industries Edition: he appeared in 7 games and won 5, one was aborted, so only 1 loss in 7 games!!! Most notably, the only game I managed to win was with the Wizard as a replacement for the Elf. Sorry for this little OT.

That's a good combo.

Getting a +2 strength in the first two turns sorpresa.gif

But i think it's just luck, because you want to get rid of the spell call card as much as possible because you have that ability already from yourself, and you need room for other spells, if you want to get them from your opponent.

I shall keep this in mind.. lengua.gif

Well, every spell user can get into trouble if they are stuck with a spell.

Gypsy can still try to get spells for herself.

She has also the ability to evade event cards. I think it's a powerful ability.

I wonder how she will play.

There are some cards in the deck that people will lose a turn. If the gypsy can evade those cards, then she get a lot of extra turns !

She can also evade pestilence etc cards.

Very handy..
