The Hound's Tooth

By Orgapurius0907, in X-Wing

Some say, it's as ugly as sin; some say, truly irresistably Awesome. What's your take on this one?

Also, Not delving in too deep about religion or Christianity here but, Does anyone get uncomfortable with this ship's model name? I mean, you guys know what those numbers represent. Could the maker of Starwars had actually intentionally did that in purpose? Your thoughts, do post about it.

2.) The significance of the number '666' is superstition and so is the religion as a whole.

3.) Game play wise it's going to be a ton of fun though. Just going to have to proxy a 2400 model in order to have visually pleasant games with it.

I think it looks great. My one regret will be that I don't seem to be getting another large base ship where I can yell, "Ramming Speed!" and then actually dammage the ships I plow into.

Still they had me at a ship full of rotting meat and wookie pelts, heck yes mine will have a gunner on staff.

As to the Christian silliness, I'm an atheist so it's all just numbers to me. Some people will find something to get upset about, hopefully they will remember to fly casual. I can just see some local media in a red state getting grumpy pants over someone losing a tournament when they refuse to play in a game featuring this ship.

Then again, it could be noting of the sort will happen and we can all keep flying casual.

I see no harm in the name; it was a creative liberty and in truth the number 666 has no modern meaning to show how twisted Bossk is as an individual. Infact, in the Edge of the Empire campaign I am playing my secondary character is Travok, a Trandosian business man who applied his alpha predatory nature to business. Unfortunately for the party he also has a tendency to feast on the dead, seeing a worthy foe as spiritual nutrition. Should have seen everyones faces when he first served the crew a meal! Though it's not a trait I play up often and is darkly comic, the foil to his otherwise civilised attire.

But then that's neither here or there.

I imagine it will have a decent dial, but it will most definitely be a slow dial, with manvouring fins allowing him to gain speed in the turning manvours.

Sounds like fun. I had an amusing time roleplaying a Thri-Kreen ranger when Dark Sun was released for AD&D. As the Thri-Kreen don't require sleep, my character spent the nights roaming the desert hunting while the rest of the party slept.

Occasionally he'd bring something nice back for the party for breakfast (Phase Spider stomach sac, anyone? Tasty!). More often he'd run back into camp screaming like Zoidberg while being chased by something bigger and more dangerous.

It was fun when he hit level 5, as well.

Scorekeeper be praised. Lots of great ideas here. Gunner, K4 and Greedo in any combination could be amazing on this ship with the right load out.

"Number of the Bossk"? I like the souds of that build. Make that a thing, ok?

The really pertinent question is, can we make a 66-point Bossk build that's actually viable? Gonna need those preview articles, FFG!

Bossk - Hound's Tooth, Opportunist, Shield Upgrade, Heavy Laser Cannon, Tactician, Recon Specialist, Gunner - 66pts

So, no. Doesn't look like it. Two things I really need to know about the YV-666 asap, and specifically, the Hound's Tooth title and the Nashtah Pup:

1: If Bossk deploys on the Nashtah Pup, does he keep his pilot ability and Elite Talent?

2: How FAR does the Nashtah Pup deploy? (thinking flying a damaged Hound's Tooth with the Dead Man's Switch right into the middle of a furball here)

So. Much. Fun.

That's the number you dial for emergency services in Australia.

I think its ugly. I also love that its ugly. It just looks so utilitarian and brutal, not unlike a junkyard dog. I think the people that designed the Houndstooth reached their design objectives.

I think it will be fun to fly and am looking forward to using it.

100% agreed. It's ugly, but it's supposed to be ugly. It just works.

I adore the aesethics of the YV-666, and literally cannot wait for it to come out!

thinking about it, Red maneuvers are not so bad when Scum have the outlaw tech.

What is the fluff on the capabilities on this ship?

Way too much religion this thread. The ship has been called a YV-666 since the 1990s. Any complaints about the name should directed towards Kathy Tyers, author of the short story about Bossk in Tales of the Bounty Hunters, that's the first appearance. FWIW, she's a Christian science fiction author, so I think everybody can take a deep breath.

Cool, I work with one of her relatives, I'll ***** at him for making us talk about this at all.

I am more concerned about how turrible the Hound's Tooth dial is going to be. The essential guides say the Hound's Tooth was maneuverable for a light freighter, but with all the possible upgrades and the 180 firing arc, I feel like there has to be some drawback to the ship.

This is what im worried about as well. Based on the stats and pts cost we can see, Bossk seems like a really really powerful ship/pilot. The dial should be similar to the YT-2400 at the very least.

However, with a good dial, the ship is gonna be a beast, so I doubt it will be that great.

I concur. I think it will have an abysmal dial, and the Maneuvering Fins mod will exist solely for the purpose of alleviating that problem (at the opportunity cost of locking you out of Engine Upgrade or other mods).

My guess would be something like,

1-straight, 2-straight (green)

1-bank, 3-straight (white)

2-bank, 3-hard (red)

Or maybe even no hard turns at all!

The 180 degree arc and the YV-666-only Maneuvering Fins mod have me convinced that the stock freighter is probably going to move like a stoned Bantha.

I'm with you on the very real possibility that we have a ship with no hard turns. It would be unique and emphasize upgrades.

No turns or Banks. Only Straights, a 4k (with double stress) and 'casual nudges' to help you change direction (or an EU)

the YV-666 would need to be 10 points to be worth taking without hard turns

I'm only partially kidding

****'s kind of important when you have that fat an ass and can't afford to get rocks and titty-bitty pieces of other ships lodged in your crack

yeah, sure, 180 arc. Call me when you've extended that coverage infinitely by removing its blindspot entirely, and then crossed out the "v" and inserted a "t"...and then gave it a great dial anyway <_<

More seriously, while I'm very weary about the fact that FFG has included a.) a maneuvering fins upgrade b.) an engine upgrade and c.) the SoT and outlaw tech combo this thing can't be worse than the shuttle. Even the shuttle has the decency of having a system slot for sensors :P

To me I know the Hounds Tooth is a modded out Freight ship turned into a house of horrors due to Bossk. I am already excited about this ship, I had a feeling it was going to show up in the game and now that it is here its looks to be awsome.

To make it more appealing is the fact it can pop out a Z-95 and that adds more life to the already beefy ship. This ship is going to rock!

If I were to compare its looks to anything, I'd say it looks more like a flying Jawa Sandcrawler.

I don't think many Christians think or care much about 666. That was left in the 80s with the horror movies which pertain to it. I've often wondered why convinced atheists proselytize that there is no God?

I am really excited for the Houndstooth and as for the asthetics of it, it's hideous but it fits. It's the kind of basic ugly that I can enjoy.

I also see the sand crawler motif

What does 666 have to do with anything?? The ship looks sick...that's all I care about.

it will have at least one set of hard turns, but they may well be stressful. The ship is beefy and cheap, with a mound of upgrades available. It has twice as much surface area in its firing arcs as the similarly priced but highly maneuverable Aggressor, but a similar area (with different orientation) as the less durable but also similarly priced Firespray, which has a good but not supremely maneuverable dial. I'd expect a poor dial, but not shuttle caliber. It absolutely will have 1, if not 2 hard turns available, but it may well suffer from Defender/shuttle syndrome, in which most or all of its hard turns are red maneuvers. OR, it may not. We simply do not know. It seems cheap, with a PS1 equivalent of something around 30, maybe less. It IS cheaper than Falcons or Decimators, but those are more durable and feature 360 turrets, so I don't think comparing it to them makes a great deal of sense. I'd expect a dial similar to the Firespray, but with more red maneuvers and no K-turn. I'd also expect it to be sorely lacking in green maneuver options, perhaps just straight maneuvers.

But then again, like I said, the Aggressor is similarly priced, similarly durable, and quite maneuverable. So, the moral of the story is, we have no idea.

Aggressors are far more durable (dat profile, dem thrusters) and a point over the most expensive YV pilot.

The yv could be something you fatten up like a thanksgiving turkey, but I'm looking forward to something between the imp bounty hunter and shuttle: a cheap and effective large ship that can run along a variety of lists

^^^ this right here is the most likely. We have to remember how unbelievably terrible the shuttle's dial is. Even at 21 points, you still have to squint to make it more efficient than finding extra points for two ties. Running shuttles in Wave 3 confirmed just how tricky it is to maneuver a large based ship without a turret or k-turn so you don't end up turning around for half the game.

I would be surprised if it was as good as any of the YTs but could see firespray (sans k-turns) or decimator. If they expect it to see play and for you to pay a 3rd of your points, it better not have shuttle's dial :)
