Best TIE Defender upgrade?

By Droidlover, in X-Wing

I'm curious as to your opinions on which upgrade is best suited for the TIE Defender: Shield, Hull, Engine or Stealth Device.

Engine. On The PS6 pilot.

Engine. Being able to boost after a k turn is sick!

Stealth Device also deserves an honorable mention, particularly when combined with Lone Wolf.

Predator.

oh... that wasn't a choice... um...

Heavy Laser Cannon.

what? that's not one either um...

Munitions Failsafe!

got there.

My vote with those specific modifications is engine upgrade. Sure it's expensive, but it provides that extra movement that the ship is seriously lacking in.

Stealth device gets knocked off too easily for it to be useful in my experience, and the other two health boosts don't really address the main flaws of the ship: namely it's cost and dial. The only fix for some of those problems is the engine upgrade.

Just my two cents.

I like Stealth Device on Vessery. He keeps his focus for defense and uses the TL on offense. I'd rarely be using boost with him anyway since I like keeping a focus for defense, so this just makes that better.

Also HLC all the way on weapons.

I like running the PS1 pilots naked. If I have the points, I use a Stealth Device. Sometimes the 4 Agility causes the opponent to fire on something else simply because they feel 4 Agility is too tough to hit.

Never ran an Engine Upgrade on them. I may have to give it a try. The Defender tends to be too "linear" sometimes.

Engine upgrade on named, anything else on unnamed.

I somehow don't like the idea to run Defenders without a cannon upgrade.

So, it should be ion cannons for generics and heavy lasers or ions for aces.

Thats probably not 'the best' upgrade, but thats what I imagine what Defenders are made for.

On the other hand, the Defender already is overcosted. So if you want to sink even more points I would add more offensive versability.

If they had a crew slot, Recon spec would be the best upgrade ;)

None of the above?

The only time I consider a modification on a Defender is if I am building a dual-Defender list, and there I'll have points to give them extra hull/shields. I don't own a copy of Engine Upgrade...but, considering how rarely I use boost on my Interceptors, I'm in no rush to get one and stick it on a Defender.

Also, wait and see what the Twi- [something] Engin- [something?] upgrade is - it could be a pretty good modification that works far better on the Defender than anything else.

As said above unless your doing a DD list you save your points for cannons and the other ships in the list.

Ignore the noobs who want to fly it like an Interceptor. The RealStarkiller and Hobojebus are right; modifications are unneccesary. The correct answer is spend your points on Ion Cannons.

And don't dare to use weapon technology which is not legal within the Empire.

I tend not to upgrade my Defenders with anything other than an EPT. I have heard of good success from people with Stealth, though. Engine Upgrade sounds cool, though.

Couldn't agree more. The second the Raider hits I'm flying:

Vader+x1+EU+ATC

2x Delta+Ion Cannon

Twin engines :)

Twin engines :)

...although this is likely to become an acceptable answer in the near future.

As soon as we know what it does...

"While moving your ship, you may make the charismatic and common TIE noise"

"While moving your ship, you may make the charismatic and common TIE noise"

Wait, that's not currently allowed?

Not officially.

Unless your name is "Paul"...

;)

A different ship

Another "best upgrade" would be the ability to fire with equipped ion cannons in addition on the same target you fire with your primaries. Maybe this would be OP, but thats basically what you did in the computer games when piloting a Defender.
