Snappy title ideas sought...

By Nerd King, in Dark Heresy

As we edge ever closer to possibly starting to perhaps play the first provisional game of our new Dark Heresy campaign I am in search of a snappy title for the series. The first campaign revolved around Acolytes in the service of the puritanical Inquisitor, Mordant Crimson, and was named “Tales of the Crimson Acolytes”. I like to title my games (and even game sessions where possible) as I think it helps create and reinforce the mood, themes and identity of the campaign. The previous game included seven players, playing eight characters between them, but never all at the same time – and the game title inferred the anthology style game with a fluctuating group that typified the game itself.

This new campaign focuses on a group of mercenaries (initially with a core of two regular characters but as with the previous campaign I'm expecting other players to drop in and out as the game goes on).

One is a wise cracking rogue and member of the Brotherhood of Thollos (based on the Marvel comics character Deadpool....) while the other is an ex-Imperial guardsman from a Feral world who has a preference for blowing things up. Initially they will be working for no single master other than personal wealth and will start out on a teaming Hive world with hints of Romano-Greco classical culture.

We’ve a had a few ideas but nothing that has really *grabbed* me as yet.

Puns, word play and pop culture references are encouraged...

Et tu Brutal? referencing the final words of Julius Caesar in Shakespeare's play about him.

A fist full of Thrones...

The good the bad and the mutated...

Mercs in Space!

Just off the top of my head...

Merc berks, flirts and perps seek perks on Greek hiveworks?

(I'm quite embarrassed to put my name to that one.... sonrojado.gif )

"The cartridge cases"
"Gun to far" (Gone to far)
"The seven sell-steels" (if your seven: reference to "Seven Samurais")
"Ammo Amore"
"Cuthroat´s Competition"
(If mercy won´t be given to you...)"Mercenary upon you!"
"Bullet Blues"
"Iron Sight Seeing" (Seeing place through the iron sights of your rifle)
"Servants of the Thrones" (Gelt)

Bring Me the Head of Mordant Crimson :-)

A few come to mind:

"Radix Malorum" - Taken from the phrase Radix malorum est cupiditas or The love of money is the root of all evil .

"Cry Havoc!" - Taken from the line in Julius Caesar "Cry, 'Havoc!', and let slip the dogs of war " referencing mercenaries.

"The I-Team" - If I have to explain this one it's not worth using it.

Extra points for the ISIHAC reference! ROFLMAO

I posted the same quandry to some gaming chums who aren't in our group and "A fistul of Thrones" (or variations on that theme seem to come up a lot. We've also had (amongst others):

Guns of the Thrones

Cane bellum

Promethium Hounds (an oblique reference to 2000AD's Strontium Dogs)

Loyalty for lease

Thank you, I do try ;-)

Umm, more ...

Twelve Angry Arbiters

Seven Mutants for Seven Radicals

Two Servitors for Sister of Battle Sara

Seven Mutants for Seven Radicals

Priceless...

Though Seven Brides for Seven Brothers could of course simply reference Sisters of Battle and Astartes. Oh emperor what a movie that would make... And the dance numbers... sorpresa.gif

Seven dwarves for seven samurai?

I can't hope to equal what's been said, but...

"The guns of save-our-own" (...Navarone...?)

"Some like it hot-shot"

"Life comes cheap"

"Being a detailed study of the mercurial mindset of the many mercenaries of his Most Magnificent Majesty of Mankind, with the purpose of dissecting and disseminating the damaging and deconstructive dementias known to perpetually perpetrate painful paranoid pageantries in the psychies of purchased purveyors of physical punishment, often rendering such persons posthumous...." sorry...got carried away with that one...

That's got to be the subtitle :)

"With a Little Help from my Acolytes"

"Reservoir Men"

"Putrid Fiction"

"The Duty Dozen"

"The Machine'ficent Seven"

"Star War...hammers"

"Kill Bio"

"Armageddon Now!"

"Full Metal Bolt"

"Mario Puzzo's The God'emperror"

Thanks to all who gave ideas and suggestions, I think I have found the title (and a subtitle) for the new campaign. It is the one that has conjured up the most imagery and concepts in my mind so I guess it works for me :) There were lots of creative and evocative ideas and so many of the other suggestions I’ve had I now plan to use as titles for individual mission/episode/session.

Anyway, the campaign working title is:

Et tu, Brutal?

"Being a detailed study of the mercurial mindset of the many mercenaries of his Most Magnificent Majesty of Mankind, with the purpose of dissecting and disseminating the damaging and deconstructive dementias known to perpetually perpetrate painful paranoid pageantries in the psychies of purchased purveyors of physical punishment, often rendering such persons posthumous...."

Currently we have two core characters (one fer cunnin' and one fer gunnin') ; Cadaver Lacuna, a reprobate scum from Scintilla and who claims memebership in the Brotherhood of Thollos and "Dakka" an ex-Guardsman, turned mercenary (possibly a deserter) from the Feral world of Endrite. He likes explosions.

So it's too late for me to suggest " Fear and Loathing in Calixis: A Mutant's Life " then?

Added to my list "Pride and Prejudice"...

Since you want puns, I think this title is the best thing to describe the Imperium.

It's never too late for good ideas. I can see an episode idea coming off that title. Particularly post-Radical's Handbook when I think I may have an occasional player joining who wants to play a Mutant PC.
