If there were no "Epic Restriction" ships, would you play them in 100 point matches?

By DraconPyrothayan, in X-Wing

For this to work, I'm assuming that if you "Cripple" a section, it counts for points destroyed.

A Corvette, with no upgrades, costs 90 points.

A Transport, with no upgrades, costs 30, but has no ability to attack.

A Raider, with no upgrades, looks to cost an even 100.

What would you build to fight against them?
Would they be overpowered in timed play? In general?

All you would have to do is quickly get behind them, or out of their front arc and let them fly off the board as you shoot up the back end. Though a Transport in a standard dog fight might be fun. Just try to run them over while you Slicer them.

At a base of 30 points I'd definitely consider the Transport with some control backup. The Raider and CR90'd struggle.

Transport yes,

everything else nope

Yeah, 10 points of upgrades on the CR90 or 0 on the Raider leaves a lot of unrealized potential.

3 transport super slam!!

3 transport super slam!!

SSSSUUUuuuuuuuuppppppppeeerrrrrrrrr slam.

Can I speak to Champ?

If it were 150-200 points maybe the Raider/CR90. They need escorts to really work.

GR75 - ohhellyes. That ship has no place being epic anyway, it's quite weak.

The raider would be an interesting experiment. It can attack, but much like a list with two shuttles it'd be very unruly.

Now a transport? I've been dying to try out a ECM jammer/splicer and sure. Why not?

In general though, no I don't think I'd run any of them in 100 point standard.

You know, except for being an amazingly effective support ship that us a waaay better value than the cr-90

100 points

It used to be the consensus that it was the stronger of the two epic ships given its incredible support ability and the terror of two Slicers working in concert.

No. But to whoever thinks the Transport is weak. You are very very wrong.

100 points isn't enough space for the Transport. The other ships can't ven manage a decent showing at 100 points.

I find it to be a fire magnet. and even with reinforce dies fairly quick, and unlike the Deci it can't boost out of arcs.

THIS SAID: I concede that once i killed a lambda shuttle 2 TIE Fighters and an interceptor with it in one game.

Yes that was without navigator.

Maybe you guys have convinced me to give it another try.

Just... ugh

That means I have to play rebel!

I've played the Transport at 100 points before.

It was actually quite a lot of fun.

I'd play with the front part of the raider only + Tarkin = 56 Points

Rexler + HLC = 44 Points

= 100 Points

It all comes down to setting up in a way to exploit whatever your opponent does.

True, the double front reinforce is nice. Eh, next time i get to play rebel on epic i'll give her a run.

Two Comms Boosters.

Chewie.

Makes it a tank. Suppkrts the fleet well. Use it as a battering ram.

Use the transport to batter ships and asteroids out of the way for your fighters to mop up :)

On a 3x3 mat. The epic ships will be hitting every asteroid or be considered off the mat after a fishtail brings it too close. Those big ships do some hefty drifting when the turn even for a bank.

Plus once you get within range 2 they won't be able to shoot back.

The drift is significant but in most epic games I've played the huge ships have never left their initial 3x3 anyway.

But most epic games I have been a part of only last about 6-8 turns. If the game lasts much longer than that, the Huge ships will be much closer to flying off the board on a 3x3.

They're better off than you think.
