No respect for the french ...

^ is of course meant as a jest - brofist french buds!

... of course ;)

I have to admit that I can't say his name, let alone spell it. The one thing about French that I don't get with other languages is that if I at least try to spell it based on phonics (because I'm hooked on them) then I have no chance of saying it properly. French is not one of those languages where you don't know a thing about it and even try to say something you read aloud. Also, when you try, there is always someone smug nearby who says, "No, no, no....it's __________" in the most pretentious way. Lately, it's been my own teenage daughter.

So....I just say Chirpy. Or Chino.

*NOTE: This isn't a bash on the French or the French language. Just a comment on how it's impenetrable to an outsider.

Last night I ran him with, expose, gunner, repel captive and engine. I wanted to try out expose and fairly often had 5 dice because of it. But even with Chiraneaus ability, I had in average two hits, so Gunner got usefull plenty of times to. I think Vader is overkill in a build like this, and personally I am trying things other than vet instincts these days. If expose did not take an action it would be brilliant on the Decimator, but I think a target lock would have helped me just as much last night!

That's exactly why Expose is typically not a good idea.

(1) Charles de Gaulle would say hi, but he's too busy fighting a guerrilla war against the Nazis.

(2) Lafayette would say hi, but he's too busy helping a bunch of British colonists win some kind of Revolutionary War.

(3) Napoleon would say hi, but he's too busy conquering Europe.

(4) The page you're referencing in your screenshot was a hoax--a webpage that looks like a page of Google search results--by a musician and amateur web designer named Steven Lerner. Google never had anything to do with it.

It was still as funny as hell though. All of those are referenced in that page.

I've had good success with this 63 point build: http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/197984/imperial-firing-squad

The TIE blockers can be awesome for setting up kills and he really doesn't suffer from bumps with his ability and Gunner. The VI is seldom useful... except against Phantoms and arc dodgers when it suddenly becomes a game changer.

Slap on an Intelligence Agent and those TIEs will block like there is no tomorrow. :)

No one's mentioned pairing the original RAC with Soontir Fel (PTL, Autothrusters, Hull or Stealth)? That leaves a 2 point initiative bid, which Fel would love, OR an upgrade from VI to Predator on the RAC.

But admiral Cheerios has the advantage of being just as easy to spell as chirpy, actually sounds similar to his real name and frequently will auto complete and capitalize.

My preferred build for him is expose, experimental interface, Isaard, weapons engineer and Mara jade. His ability provides a focus effect, the weapons engineer means I almost always have a TL, I virtually never get less than 4 booms on his attacks.

Like I mentioned early in the thread, the most effective buddies I have used with him are the 3 academies blocking stuff so that they can't focus fire on him and he can deal with the enemy piecemeal.

and it's good for your cholesterol :D

not his, though. Being fat has its detriments

I prefer RAC.

Good point, I prefer honey nut tho.

Take 35 point fel, it's one of the best imperial lists out there. Be careful though because a lot of arc dodgers build to 98 points and you really want your fel to move last. I take captive over isard and mainly boost out of arcs and it gets me down to 97 points which wins darn near all bids. Don't get me wrong isard is good too and you can't go wrong with either.

Also don't listen to the Vader haters! Gunner Vader is absolutely HILARIOUS against your opponents high cost glass cannons. I double Vadered a fel last tournament and the first critical was munitions failure and the 2nd was direct hit! Nothing like auto killing the anchor of a list in the 1st round.

and here's the thing. I KNOW I'll be fighting 3 unshielded tinterceptors led by 34-36 points of fel.

I KNOW fel will be PTL/RG/AT/SD.

I can all but guarantee misses from my ships, so the auto damage will always be worth it.

Gunnervader on PS10 just sounds needed.

I think using Vader on a 63 pt Decimator is good if you have an open crew slot, and IF your support ships shoot before the Decimator. So I would recommend replacing VI with some other 1 PT upgrade (Determination).

Consider this:

1. Shoot at a B Wing with Soontir and PS 8 Rear Admiral. B Wing lives at 1 Hp.

2. B Wing shoots at Rear Admiral, receiving 2-3 damage, possibly a crit

3. Next round Rear Admiral/Soontir uses a **** to finish off 1 Hp B Wing

Vs

1. Shoot at B Wing with Soontir and PS 8 Rear Admiral. B Wing lives at 1 Hp.

2. Rear Admiral uses Vader crew, receives 2 damage (no crits), and finishes off 1 Hp B Wing before it shoots.

3. Next round Rear Admiral/Soontir shoot at a different ship, crippling or killing it

Both situations the Rear Admiral takes minimum 2 damage, but none of those are crits, and next round both your ships are free to take out a new target instead of being forced to split fire. When you play with 2 ship lists, ships living at 1 Hp is very common due to low # of attack dice. Having Vader, and making sure not to over use the card, can be very helpful to clear the board at a faster rate.

Add to this the power that Vader crew gives you to beat Interceptors, and I think it is a very good choice for a Decimator.

this is how I run Chiraneau:

elusiveness

engine upgrade

Ysanne Isard

Mara Jade

Rebel captive

dauntless

Carnor Jax

PTL

Hull upgrade

royal guard

shield upgrade

won a store championship with this build,

right now I am 10 and 2 with this list, first loss came down to 1 hull point the second loss was to 4 warthogs (that went undefeated the entire tournament)

I find that with the mini focus, you almost always score a hit with Chiraneau so gunner is a waste of points.

no one expects a decimator to move fast, so engine upgrade is a lot more useful then a hull or shield, basically gives you some arc dodging ability, which left my enemies with few or no shots on my deci.

then throw in elusiveness to take a chance to cancel a die, then with Ysanne really reduces damage especially against 2 attack die ships

add ontop of that stress to each ship at range 1 and the first ship to shoot at you and you are limiting fire arcs and dodging behind them to blast them

now ontop of all that, Jax prevents focus from being used when your deci is being shot at and the deci hits them with no focus to help evade, ships go down fast

I have flown this list replacing elusiveness with expert handling, although it was cool barrel rolling a deci, it didn't work as effectively

^ looks really fun to fly.

I rarely get good mileage out of Elusiveness, how many hits does it cancel for you on average?

I'm going to try this build with Chirpy

============================== Casual (chiraneau Y Omnivader) ==============================

98 points Pilots ------

Omicron Group Pilot (35)

Lambda-Class Shuttle (21), Sensor Jammer (4), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Darth Vader (3)

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (63)

VT-49 Decimator (46), Veteran Instincts (1), Rebel Captive (3), Ysanne Isard (4), Gunner (5), Engine Upgrade (4)

Beleive it or not, it has worked 100% so far, my luck wil run out soon. But it has been amazing. Eye balls and blanks, and with jax close by, cant change eye balls to hits. Its a great combo
