Oath Unspoken - Dark Heresy

By fog1234, in Dark Heresy General Discussion

For the past few months I've been running a Dark Heresy Second Edition game. We started with Dark Pursuits and I'm almost finished with the second chapter of Forgotten Gods.

Recently, I've been putting out games into a photo-essay format that I thought I would share with other people out there to show people what you can do with Virtual Table Tops (VTT). Our games are run using Roll20 and Skype. Most of our assets are harvested from Fantasy Flight and old Games Workshop sources. I should be putting in more updates as time goes forward, but reddit seems like this project and some of the guys there said I should post it here.

If you are a GM/author and you want to see more PM and I can arrange a tour.

Really cool! Starts a bit in the middle of things with the first panel being the killing of one PC by the others but very interesting. I would definitely enjoy seeing more.

I'm still learning about how to do photo-essays. I knew how to use GIMP, but shockingly I didn't know much about imgur. I was just cutting my teeth with the Only War stuff, then I realized our DH adventures were way more interesting. I put this stuff up because from what I've seen a lot of GM's don't seem to know the tools that they have their disposal to make really cool adventures. I'm trying to make the events on the voidship standalone as I can for readers.

If you've read Forgotten gods, then the party is on the lift platform in Port Gyre after visiting the cold traders camp.

AH this is awesome:D are you planning to carry on with it? And where do you get these lovely tokens from? Or did you make them yourself?

I actually finished the campaign a few months ago. The photo diary thing wasn't working for me as capturing large areas required photo stitching which added a lot of work to my dance card. If you want to make equivalent tokens I use something called 'token tool'.

If you want all my tokens I can send you a file on skype if you PM with a skype name.

Do you count boxes for range - I only ask because your using tokens in a virtual battlefield - I had to personally retool RANGE in my game and creat a house rule for things...

How do you handle it?

Morbid

I count boxes. I can set the roll20 to do diagonals a few ways, but I normally don't bother. There is also a ruler tool. Honestly, measurement doesn't seem to cause a lot of issues in my games.

There is an invisible grid too. People move about on grid lines.

MorbidDon,

If you are using Fantasy Grounds, range is handled on the map when you link tokens to the map from the combat tracker. The ruleset will have a built in range, in the case of DH it's 3 meters per square. So when targeting you can see the arrow from actor to target and it displays the range.

This is based on the grid you set on the image. It measures the diagonals just fine. So, let's say you had a long range encounter in mind with a large map. Set the grid small, and your firefights would have rather long ranges. Set up in a small room that's thirty feet or so.. then set the grid so it's ten squares across the image. Pretty handy, I have never had range issues in my game.

As for tokens, I used token tool and made an awesome set of 250 tokens for use in my games. I use a few different tools for map images. Most of them I use a map maker than layers Space Hulk tiles. For on the fly maps, I have a base floor image, one for outside one for a steel deck, then make terrain tokens to drop them on and create something on the fly.
