TIE Punisher gets a Canon Upgrade

By KineticOperator, in X-Wing

I think that it should be call the Tie Mutant!

But...it's symmetrical shape makes it LESS of a mutant than the Bomber is.

I just want to point out to all the die hard "It's supposed to be called an Interdictor" folks that the only explanation for the name change is that Disney/LFL decided that it should be called the Punisher. The days of Lucas lazily allowing people to call things whatever they wish are over, every toy, image, video, or game released at this point has every part of it examined and brought into line with the official canon.

So we really should drop the silly Interdictor Punisher stuff already. It is and apparently always should have been the Punisher. At any rate, it is the Punisher from here on out.

No!

I only care about original canon.

If you don't think interdictor is an appropriate name then you should look up what the military term "interdiction" means

*Interdiction* is a military term for the act of delaying, disrupting, or destroying enemy forces or supplies en route to the battle area. A distinction is often made between strategic and tactical *interdiction*.

There we go, I made it easy for you

It doesn't matter of the name was thematically appropriate. It doesn't change the fact that the name was already taken, and they shouldn't have used it in the first place.

It's as bad as if they'd named it a TIE Executor.

Or TIE Mon Calamari Star Cruiser.

I think Lucas gave in completely when he sold out to Disney. Face it the Mouse OWNS Star Wars. They can do what ever they want with it. The mouse can even put Jar Jar Binks back in if he wanted to.

Im not denying that they can do what they want with the IP, they could rename star destroyers as flower bringers for all I care. It won't change my opinion

They can't make me like it, can't make me accept it nor acknowledge it

Flower Bringers!

Next spehss mahreen chapter for Deathwatch NAMED.

Galactic Battlegrounds came out in 2001. 14 years of habit isn't going to die overnight.

Well, it was just called the TIE Advanced Bomber in that game, so that argument ain't gonna fly. (Unless you can show me a screencap of it being called anything else.)

It was first identified as the Interdictor in FFG's Star Wars RPG book, "Stay on Target," in 2014.

EDIT: Huh. I managed to miss that there were 3 more pages of discussion.

Actually, it was indentified as Interdictor in SWGBG, ingame if you turn advanced tooltips/hints on (which you always should), it goes into detail about certain ships e.g. their stats as well as their non-symmetrical Canon name (meaning every Factions advanced fighter was called advanced fighter, but if you looked at the description it would give you a canon name so you would know, Tie Defenders are Imp advanced fighters etc.) The Canon name given in Battlegrounds for the ship in question was, "Tie Interdictor"

I see the edit you made so I'm not sure if you already figured this out, but I was just clarifying in case you didn't ;)

Galactic battlegrounds - the goto game for making a custom scenario to kill jar jar / gungans.

enable cheats and type "that's no moon" to make this doubly hilarious.

Then use "attack ground" ON Jar Jar. He must be the epicentre!

I haven't played the game for awhile. Do you still have it? I'd love to see a screencap of that. I can't find any sources that identify it as anything but the Advanced TIE Bomber. The wookiepedia page states that both GBG and Stay on Target were the first mention but I was sure it had previously only said SoT. All of the game sites I've been able to find for GBG only say Advanced Bomber.

So, out of curiously, what was the TIE Heavy Bomber's name then when you moused over it?

Good question, I think it was just called the TIE Heavy bomber. If no-one confirms this I can check tonight.

Yes I still have it, if you really don't believe me, I'll post a screenie if I can remember how to post images on FFG forums (and how to take a screenie in the first place xD)

EDIT: I can't figure out how to take a screenshot, someone else who has the game may have to confirm it

It''s not that I don't believe you, it's that I've not been able to find sources other than a couple of people on the Wookiepedia Talk page for this ship that make the same statement.

And, FWIW, I think Punisher is a better idea just because of the Interdictor cruisers that have existed in Star Wars for awhile. I know that argument's already floating around. I just want to really understand the source but don't have the game. I thought I got in a bundle awhile back but that was Empire at War.

I didn't grab a screenshot, but it shows on the research/build. It goes Bomber(TIE Bomber), Enhanced bomber (TIE Hvy Bomber). and Adv. Bomber (TIE Interdictor).

I'll just call it the Honeycomb since that's what it looks like anyway.
