TIE Punisher gets a Canon Upgrade

By KineticOperator, in X-Wing

Considering that Interdictor already has a long-standing place in the SW universe as an entirely different kind of ship (gravity well generator carriers), it only makes sense that LFL and Disney would take the opportunity that including one in an FFG product offers them and rebrand the thing as a TIE Punisher instead.

It makes sense IF they are planning on continue to referencing and use the Interdictor name in future projects and don't want to cause confusion. Say, for example, the above role you mentioned in a certain fleet-based capital ship combat game...

For the same reason Star Destroyers are renamed to Ship Destroyers in the next release.

Nope, will always be the Interdictor to me, so much better name. Not to mention it is called the Interdictor in other FFG material.

When someone says interdictor I immediately think grav well generators, so very ok with Punisher. This said, I'm not a fan of the eggbox design. maybe a 2 pod 1 cockpit alternate, but a full 4 pods 1 cockpit looks silly.

Punisher sounds way too harmless for a craft which is (lore-wise) capable to do the same destruction like a swarm of Tie Bombers...

TIE Obliterator would be my choice. Also TIE Interdictor sounds even weaker and way off base, Since Interdict means to prohibit or intercept.

I'm gonna start calling the K-Wing the Flying Fortress, and the Interdictor, the Spirit.

I take it you aren't a fan of Marvel Comics?

It "interdicts" the existence of Rebel Capital ships. Much cooler than Punishes them.

I'm not a fan of mixing marvel up with Star Wars.

To the marvel hell with your punisher skull :P

In fact, I hate "Tie Punisher" because of that.

But well ... i will adopt eventually ...

I'll probably always call the punisher the eggbox. Turn it face up.. it looks like an egg carton with wings.

It may also be a case that FFG does not want to confuse this ship with a (potential) future Armada expansion (Interdictor Cruiser). Since the cruiser is a much more iconic ship than this variant of TIE Bomber, easier to fudge the bombers name than the cruisers.

It is, however, the one ship the forum has yet to give a Rogue Squadron Stackpole-style nickname. The TIE fighter, TIE bomber, TIE interceptor, TIE advanced, TIE defender and TIE phantom have "eyeball", "dupe", "squint", "bright", "trip" and "blink." What's this? I don't think "pent" really does it justice.

TIE-Quint?

Don't americans call bombs 'eggs' anyway? So eggbox would fit ;)

Not gonna lie: as a kid, I constantly confused the "Star Destroyer" and the "Death Star".

I think I was 20 or so before I realized that "Destroyer" was a class of ship and not an adjective.

It's the "TIE Punner". FFG named it after me shorty after my 1000th post.

Obviously.

Spider.

(It reminds me of spider eyes.)

Grapeshot

(Works on a lot of levels.)

I don't like the name because it doesn't match the naming scheme for movie TIEs. They all had descriptive names: fighter, interceptor, bomber, advanced. The empire reserves poetic names for super weapons: death star, etc. I'd rather it was called TIE heavy bomber, TIE assault bomber, TIE bomber advanced, something like that.

It's as descriptive as Interceptor, and significantly better than Advanced.

TIE UPS? After all, it DOES deliver packages

Eggbox just fits nicely

TIE Widebody.

TIE Chunky McPodula.

TIE Bomb-U-Lots.
