New campaign guide

By Reiryc, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I wish or would like it if FFG would release new campaign guides for purchase. I'm talking about the larger 30ish page guide not the more limited mini campaign that comes with twin shadows.

The idea would be to release only the guide and with each guide released, clearly specify all required and intended expansions to be used with the guide and in the guide if any rebel hero's should be excluded from being used due to any possible balance issues. I'd happily purchase another 30ish page campaign guide or 2 for only the core set or 1 or more for core plus twin shadows.

.

I'm not saying to produce guides in place of exansions such as twin shadows, but in addition to such expansions.

I actually scanned and printed my campaign book along with all the expansion inserts. Its in a 3 ring binder now, and it's quite handy to be able to write notes in it such as reserved groups that worked well in that mission, for future campaigns. I plan to keep it updated.

that's a great idea...it's too bad im just too lazy to do that for myself lol....

I'd still love a new campaign guide just for all the new missions in an overarching story line.

They are publishing such guides for Descent so it seems reasonable to expect that IA might get something similar in future.

I have no idea how Descent works as far as quests go, but if they printed new campaign material wouldn't that mean we'd need new Story Mission, Side Mission, Agenda Cards?

Probably would... I would imagine those could be included with the guide book.

Side missions and agenda decks would be constructed as usual, a campaign guide would only need story missions. You don't need to include cards for story missions, a branching story path could be included in the book.

Yeah, I don't understand the point of the story mission cards. They're just a little bit of extra text that could have been included in the book. It's not like you ever need to draw one at random, which one you play next is determined by how the previous one went.

They are useful for keeping track of a campaign between sessions, just pack the current side missions and story mission cards into a container. Not major benefit in having the cards.

All good points, I suppose all a campaign really needs is an Intro Mission, 4 to 8 Story Missions (depending on success & failures) and 2 Finales. So I guess the logical question next question to ask might be ... Do you think they'll go the same route as Descent and put out an alternate Co-op style of game rules? Me, personally, I enjoy the idea of a full-time empire player. Luckily my group has 2 or 3 people who are more than happy to take up that mantle.

I'm not against the idea of a coop mode. I doubt I'd pick it up though. I prefer, for this game, the competitive nature of both sides being human controlled.

I'd pick up a purely coop expansion. I'd probably only get the chance to play it solo but that's something you can't do with the core set.

More campaign missions and variety of figs for the imperial player are my biggest wishes for the game right now. I'm kinda surprised we haven't seen much user created campaign content yet.

Yeah you can, you'll just have to use a token. :P

Descent has an online quest editor that is used for creating and sharing content. This is what IA needs.

We have only played through one campaign but it kinda feels non-replayable, since the rebels know all surprises in most story missions. So I'm waiting for a full sized campaign only with story missions - as there are a lot more side missions unplayed.

Twin shadows will only bring 4 missions (no idea if they will be side or story) and that doesn't make a campaign...

I fully support coop mode.

First off, I want a co-op mode, might save my marriage. :D

@Gecimen, I'm not tracking when you say "We have only played through one campaign but it kinda feels non-replayable".

Even if the Rebels

Win every mission in a single play through, they will get an entirely new campaign with entirely new story missions (minus aftermath) if they play through and lose every mission

Plus, the different combination of heroes, money earned, exp earned, influence earned, side missions available, agenda deck chosen and Imperial class chosen (I'm sure I'm missing some things), there's so many different possibilities I doubt it's even possible to have a remotely same experience twice.

Just in Aftermath there are

two different options the Imperial player can pick the first time a door opens

This is the case in almost every mission. So even if you play a mission 2 or 3 times, you can experience something different. I'd recommend you play another campaign and see how the experience stacks up. I'd love to hear the results. Best of luck to you.

I'm fully aware, but some of those options are no brainers. We will play again after Twin Shadows anyways.

If it's anything like Descents release schedule, which I assume it will be, you'll have plenty of content to play.

I would be surprised if we don't see a big box expansions, akin to the core set, for Christmas time.

Let us hope so!

A big box Hoth expansion with a Wampa, snow armour storm troopers, rebel troopers in Hoth gear, etc would be great.

I haven' t seen this discussed elsewhere, but the Luke in the core set is clearly the Luke of Episode 4. Should we expect alternate versions of key characters that reflect their development in the movies? For example, can we expect to see a Jedi knight version of Luke that more closely reflects his abilities and appearance in ROTJ?

This has got me thinking about the likely order of expansions:

Core set - Yavin IV

Twin Shadows - Tatooine

3 - Hoth?

4 - Bespin + Dagobah?

5 - ROTJ Tatooine?

6 - Endor?

7 - Jakka?

You make a good point about Luke. I'd like to see him as a stronger darth vader type ally in a later release

I expect he'd lose his ranged attack and have light sabre as his primary weapon. The light sabre ability could be replaced with force throw or focus or both. The mini would have him in Jedi robes with light sabre. I think I is strongly implied that this is going to happen on page 25 of the RRG under unique. It specifically indicates the possibility of there being multiple versions of the same character,
