Ideas for large and massive figures

By Gecimen, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I'm a fan of painting big figures in IA.

I have been thinking of what 2, 4 and 6 space large and massive units can be implemented in IA. There of course are obvious options but limited. Wave 2 and 3 doesn't seem to include any. Let's make a brainstorming on what can be added. At this moment; original trilogy, prequel trilogy, clone wars, rebels or expanded universe doesn't matter. You can shoot whatever exists in a broad sense. In the end Nexu is a prequel monster and royal guard champion is actually an EU character. The only rule is that they have to be in a reasonable size.

2 Space large figures:

* Scout trooper on speeder bike

* Rebel on speeder bike

* Tauntaun rider

* Wampa

4 Space large figures:

* AT-RT

* Boga rider

* Dewback rider trooper

* Dianoga (trash worm)

* Ewok flyer

* Jabba the Hutt

6 Space massive figures:

* Acklay

* AT-AP

* AT-DP

* AT-XT

* Bantha rider tusken

* Basilisk War Droid

* Rancor

* Reek

* Snow speeder

Can you think of anything else? Please also feel free to write down which of these figures would please you if released.

I think a snowspeeder would be much larger than 4, just imagine the mini riding inside it. It would probably be a 3 by 3 at least and that's getting almost too big for IA (some of the hallways are limited to 2 in one direction etc).

Well yes, if a single square is about 1,5 meters, it would be 3x3 but it could also be like the base is smaller and the figure is larger.

Anyways I'll move it to large figures, at least it can be like one side tilted up.

Edit: In the campaign massive figures can not move indoors so it wouldn't be much of an issue.

Yeah I know I was more talking about the already existing skirmish maps that would really limit the character. On some maps it wouldnt be able to leave it's starter zone!

Some of these wouldn't work, like the speeder bikes and snowspeeder. The figures have to be able to stay in one spot till it is there turn. Speeder bikes, Snowspeeders, and especially Ewok Flyers cannot do this unless parked and in that mode they'd be completely useless. Also the Dianoga would be far too limited (a large figure that can only occupy 'water' tiles? That'd mean it could only inhabit like 2-3 places in the entire core set.)

Thinking way too inside the box. What if they do release a bunch of watery tiles and maps for a specifics campaign?

What if they do release a Endor/ Hoth only pack where all of your stuff is open, with a new terrain edge that is a "Short Wall": Ground based figures can't see through it but Speeder can fly over it etc?

Also I never think of ANYTHING standing still, unless of course it doesn't move on it's turn. a full Round is say 10 seconds real time, and everyhting moves and shoots more or less at the same time. etc. I'd say if speeder bikes and snow sppeders where added they'd HAVE to hav especial movement rules. IE they always have to move, and can only change "facing" once per activation? Something like that...

Now to the OP's list... Hmm.

Exactly, my thoughts.

Once again I also thought this way - they all move and shoot at the same time, with a slight difference of initiative.

So now bantha rider tusken is a thing. :) Still expecting a lot more....

A Dewback Trooper would be awesome. Though I'm not sure if they rode those things into battle...

A Speeder Bike would be cool too. Speed 12 lol. I feel like the maps are too small for how fast those things go.

Something like a Rancor would be way too big I think. If they did it it would have to be limited to a special rancor cage tile thing. Which would be cool, but not very versatile...

3*3 rancor as a boss for a campaign mission! I'm down. However it might not work in skirmish. There's a nexu already, so why not a 3*2 Reek or Acklay?

I think snowspeeder could be 2x3. It's clear in the moves they are smaller than we think they are. They would have to be on a risen base like x-wing.

Same goes for a speeder if they were 2x2. But I think both can be done.

A tauntaun would be another that can be 2x2

I think adding figures like this would fix the speed problem the rebels have right now vs officers withot giving them officers.

+1 rancor. A TON of possibilities for campaign...

I'd love a rancor.

In descent (1st edition) they did an outdoor map for the ocean campaign.

A big 3x2 foot board full of blue squares, with an island map on the reverse.

That's the amount of space required for speeder bikes or snow speeders.

It's possible that they will do it, but I don't think we'll see it anytime soon.

Rancor. Rancor. Rancor!

That is all. Just make it awesome and terrifying.

[in response to concerns about sizing: if a Bantha rider is 2x3, then they can certainly fit a Rancor onto that scale.]

Basilisk War Droid. I know I won't get it, doesn't stop me from wanting one.

A 3x3 unit would work very poorly. It'd be stuck in 1 room since all the tiles connect with 2 square width entry-ways.

That was my thinking. It could only see (quite limited) use in campaign. And since it can't chase, even then you'd have to give the players a good reason to engage it.

But wouldn't that mini be sweet?

I believe a rancor is more or less the same size as a AT-ST.

As a skirmish player I don't really see any value in Jabba, and I just think all the speeders, right down to the bikes, would be crazy impractical. A dewback rider would be a nice bit of nostalgia but I never got the feeling they were really for frontline combat =)

That picture is a thing of beauty! I now have a new desktop background on my computer! Thanks!

And yes, if we have an AT-ST on a 3x2 base, then a Rancor will certainly fit. It will fit in quite well with the whole Episode 6 story...we should get a jedi Luke, a new Leia (either Boussh or bikini), a Jabba, a Rancor, Gamorrean Guards, etc. There is SO much to play with, just from the first 30 minutes of the movie! And if (more like 'when') they make that expansion, the Rancor will probably be the center piece.

Basilisk War Droid. I know I won't get it, doesn't stop me from wanting one.

That would be great indeed. I added that to the list.

HERE YOU GO

Should have a base about the same size as the Nexu. Feel free to stat out as you please. ;)

Jabba could work as a commander type / bullet sponge; maybe bundled with some Gamorreans?

I like the 2x3 Rancor idea, but for argument's sake I think a 3x3 Rancor could work as a set piece in skirmish: either as an impediment to a common goal*, or something that can be released / set upon you opponent for a turn via some mechanism.

*Like steal the shiny object from its den, and it tries to kill whoever has it (thus granting control to the other player).

Super-GNK: 2x1, 0 defense, 5hp, 1mp, 2 Threat

Actions: GONK

Ambles about aimlessly and generally annoys anyone trying to get around it in a hallway. Comes with two 0 threat MSE droids that don't obstruct line of sight or movement.

I think this answers the question of Stormtroopers riding Dewbacks into battle.
