How do you carry your playmat?

By Murm3l, in X-Wing

I have the FFG playmat, it comes in a box which I reckon won't last long. I've been thinking about an artist's tube but some sort of nylon bag with a shoulder strap would be even better. What do you use?

I use an artist tube. I also have an HCD mat that i fold and put in the bottom of my 216 bag.

Well, once again I didn't do what I thought I would do this weekend. That is go to a hardware store and pick up some U-bolts to attach to the the box.

I am going to put two on my box. Punch a hole through for each peg. Washers on the inside.

Then, I have an old laptop bag strap that I'm going to attach to the rings on the outside.

You can always get poster tubes from packaging stores or possibly even Walmart.

I use one as well. I bought mine locally, but THIS looks like something very similar.

A Michaels or Hobby Lobby (as loath as I am to recommend them) should carry them.

I only have one mat, I think 2 might fit. Amazon sells one with a larger diameter.

I don't have FFG mats, but I fit both my epic and standard vinyl playmats in this tube, with room for at least one more mat. It also has a strap for easy carrying, and is adjustable to fit up to 4' mats. Also can't really beat the price. You could probably pick them up at other office supply stores as well, and for cheaper than art supply stores.

That is the one I have.

It is nice, but I hate to pay half as much for the mat to just get protection for it..

I lucked out, and my wife had it from her Graduate School/Teaching days. Now it is basically mine, since she no longer travels to present poster on her research. So I didn't have to pay for it, and it probably cost as much as either one of my printed mats.

In the opposite hand to the big stick as i walk softly.

Got mine for 6$ at hobby lobby. (40% coupon from just getting their app). Just saying as amazon prices look real high.

Use a sawed off portion of the tube that my fishing rod came in. Free! (with purchase of fishing rod...)

In the back of my car in the original tube it was purchased in.

I sprung for a nice tube with a strap from Amazon. I have two of the FFg playmats for Armada, and it's seemed to do the trick so far. It was about $18.00 with free shipping.

US Art Supply Black Telescoping Drafting Tube Diameter 4-1/8" Length: 30-1/2" to 53"

$4 yoga bag from "$5 Below"
and Jawas...I tend to have them carry my stuff.

I have two GaleForce 9 mats, both rolled up into one of the tubes. Since it was difficult juggling a round tube along with my toolbox of miniatures (and often dinner as well), my girlfriend found some Star Wars fabric, and fashioned a shoulder strap that attaches to the end caps, which I drilled a hole out of to attach.

With two hands, but this is our play mat and it's pretty heavy. :P

I've been contemplating picking up a length of PVC piping and a couple end caps. Waaay more rigid & damage-proof than cardboard tubes, and much easier to affix a strap to.

That said, though, my bannersonthecheap vinyl banner is currently carted around in a rigid cardboard tube -- I'm a CAD designer, and the tube was once the center spindle of a roll of plotter paper. You might try hitting up a local blueprint company & see if they have any lying around. The ones we use are 3' long with a 2" inside diameter.

Both mats fit in the one tube?

I roll it up and fold it over and shove it in my backpack.

Don't do this unless your okay with slight creases in the middle of your mat. I'm a cheap bastard that won my mat in a raffle so I don't care..

That Yoga bag Idea might be a really good idea.

I have a Gale Force 9 playmat. I use the tube it came in as well. I carry it in a side mesh pocket of my P.A.C.K. Go, using a Velcro strap wrapped around the handle to keep it in place.

A yoga mat bag is a great idea, as is a pvc tube really.

Both FFG mats fit nicely in an artist tube. It's tough, secure, and has a strap. I carry it on my bike just fine.

I put some imperial decals on mine and made it look like some kind Imperial bazooka.. Its all about the looks.
