Short days ago we could read this new article about the most awaited reinforcement for Imperial Navy.

Maybe they meant that the next update was in Q1?

i still think that ARMADA ate into the Raiders printer space/time...

FFG has become notorious for stating a release date one quarter early than they are possibly capable of meeting. This is even more sad given how slow they are to consider even updating the Upcoming webpage.

It could be the result of any number of issues.

1 - Factory problems. IIRC they come from China, and who knows what goes on in some of the production facilities over there.

2 - Changed contents. If FFG found a typo, or if they decided that a mechanic on one of the cards really needed to be changed, or if the initial models off the line proved to have some kind of problem, then it could take quite some time for them to redo all the necessary stuff and then get the new kit printed up in enough numbers to ship.

3 - Shipping problems. Weather, natural disasters, political upheaval, labor disputes, and even random mechanical failures could all contribute to slowing or stopping production. It doesn't even have to be shipping from the factory to the points of sale, either. If some of the materials needed for a production run got held up for whatever reason, then that run would be delayed either until they resolved the hold up or found a new source for materials.

And so on.

TLDR - It could be any number of things causing delays, and unless FFG says what it is we'll never know.

My money would be on the release of Armada. From a monetary standpoint they would rather people spend $100 on a new game, especially if they can only afford one or the other. And the new game will sell more xpacs than the Raider will.

seriously it would be nice if "Scotty" was the one giving the time estimates!!!
