2015 Regionals Results

By MajorJuggler, in X-Wing

Pretty killer game, MJ. 400-0 now!

Between the two streams, some fun matches so far. A pancake lost, a defender list won against Fel. Good stuff

Fredericton regionals start in less than three hours

Lol can't decide between two lists

I'm with you buddy. Haha, so many options.

6x Rebel Operative. 4 points for initiative.

I'd drop one so 4 of them can have Gunner. It really boosts their jousting values.

BroBots win in both Kansas City and Massachusetts. Full results for MA should be up on List Juggler in the next couple days. 2nd place was another RAC / Fel. Top 4 was another Brobots and a Cracken 4 ship build I think.

I came in 15th in Massachusetts, did OK. Made one bad mistake vs Fel / RAC that lead to a loss, and a 2nd loss in round 5 vs some jousty PS8 BroBots with some really bad luck. 4-2 and got some shield tokens, it was a fun day.

Kinetic Operator took the sweet IG-88A option, too.

KO has now demonstrated that the gap between playing your own list and playing a near-meta list is much smaller than previously thought.

Take a list you think can compete and nobody else plays: 2nd place

Take a meta-ish list: 1st place

That should end all the whining.

Or it could continue to show what a good ship IG 88 is as a wide variety of builds on them continue to do very well. Either way, I don't think one result tells us much as we continue to see two ship builds with point fortresses do very well.

Do we have other lists that made it far? I was glad to see Vessery and Brath make top 4 and wish I could have seen the whole game where that list faced KO. I do think that there is an opening for the elite defenders in this meta. I tried running Brath in some practice games myself and did well but found that Rebel Captive really ruined my day.

A more thorough report will eventually make its way to the Battle Reports forum, but I was also at that Regional with 2 TIE Defenders. My loss to Kinetic Operator in the top 4 was my only loss of the day.

Congrats! I wondered if that was you or someone trying out your list. Well done!

Thanks, now when the periodic discussions start, and someone inevitably says "If Defenders are so great, someone should take them to a major event", it can be said that someone did*.

*not statistically significant, perhaps.

So what happened in Freddie?

To be honest not sure how it ended.

Made 9th place so didn't stick around when they did cut to top 4 as we had a 4 hour drive

I know bbbbz, chewy and Luke, 5z and Luke made it into top 4

Was a long day and I forgot to ask buddy for his email.

(I also wasn't thinking well at end of day, only had 3-4 hours sleep)

Wasn't a huge turnout

Only 20 players.

20 players started, according to their posts (which only went to round four) there were 2 drops and 2 DQs.

Met some really good people and am pumped to move out there and play more xwing.

considering the reputation surrounding the defenders, just taking them and doing well at any regional event is a significant accomplishment regardless of what it does or does not say about the ship

congratulations :D

Two DQs? Someone over points or something?

I'm not quite sure what's up with that. Perhaps the TO meant drop, but that's what was posted.

I know one guy dropped at the beginning of the fourth round after meeting his top four opponent, possibly that was one? But people may have missed game time after the dinner break, again not sure.

Nice work! I am intensely curious about how the match-ups went, and how you feel the list performed overall. Mind linking the battle report here when it's up?

https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/179624-putting-my-money-where-my-mouth-is-on-tie-defenders-step-3-or-holy-crap-defenders-are-going-to-regionals/

It might be a bit short on details, but I'll try to remember more if you have any questions.

The Top 8 in KC was awesome. Four turrets (Han, Dash, 2xChewie), three with Corran and one with Talas. Three Corran, including two of the turrets, but the third had Luke (Luke!) and an A-Wing of all things. A pure TIE swarm with Howlrunner with a nice twist to her build. One asymmetrical Brobot list using A and B. A twin Defender list!

With so many turret entries, the top 8 representation showed them to be on par in effectiveness, not superior. They were successful in roughly the same percentage as their entries, and the only ones to make the cut were the ones flown by the most skilled players (giving lie to the easy-mode theorists).

All in all, an excellent example of a meta that appears to be regaining its diversity. :-)

Wasn't there unfortunately, but here are the top 4 from Fredericton:

The guy running this was pretty awesome with it. Really fun to watch it work it's magic. All of the top four were good guys and a ton of fun to watch play.

There will be game footage done up by Northern Gaming Network. My two losses in the tournament are well documented on video! I guess I'm camera shy!

kudos to you all :D

And I'm glad Luke got up so high. He's a really stellar pilot and a great R3-A2 vehicle (sadly, Wes is far too fragile :( ); probably the X-wing's single greatest chance to show up in competitive events (well, him and Tarn).

He does much enjoy 2-ship builds with their highly modified attacks, but swarms of all kinds really don't like super green dice :) (even if they tend to fickle-out from time to time <_< )
