Stay On Target: I Am Confused

By President Jyrgunkarrd, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So, I usually have the X-Wing FAQ up when i'm playing on Vassal as a quick reference guide, but today I was mostly using the Wiki - which has images of the cards.

There is slightly different language used on SoT the card than what is printed in the FAQ, and they seem to imply different things?

FAQ:

When you reveal a maneuver, you may rotate your dial to another maneuver with the same speed.
Treat your maneuver as a red maneuver.

WIKI CARD ART:

When you reveal a maneuver, you may rotate your dial to another maneuver with the same speed.
Treat that maneuver as a red maneuver.

The former instruction seems to allow you to keep your dial set to the value you had before and still gain a stress token (useful for Farlander), and is how I've been playing for a while. The latter instruction seems to suggest that you must rotate the dial before the maneuver will count as red.

Which is correct? Or do they both mean the same thing and, if so, am I allowed to keep the same maneuver and gain the stress token for pretending that it's red?

Your question doesn't seem to pertain to the parts that you bolded (the/your), but I'm pretty sure that if you use SoT you do have to change maneuvers. That is what the "another" is signifying.

The change in wording was put into place to address questions about what happens if you have other cards that further modify your maneuver. Boba fett or navigator, for instance. There was an argument that if you used SoT to change maneuvers, then used navigator to change to a non-red maneuver that the SoT no longer functioned as intended. The change in wording makes it clear that whatever maneuver you end up on after using SoT, even if you changed it 6 more time with other effects, it is going to be red. But "rotate your dial to another maneuver" is clearly saying you have to select a different maneuver than the one you are currently on.

Thank you for the clarification.
