Have Playmates Super Star Destroyer (pics) need stats

Run it as an Imp-Star

All of that sounds reasonable- except that I'm still of the opinion that a SSD ought to stretch a third of the way across the map. At least ;)

Re: engineering: that's not a bad idea. In fact, why not make that universal for any of the command dials? When you convert a command dial into a command token you may assign it to either section of the ship. Could be done as a native rule, or perhaps as an upgrade or crew card.

Heheh, fair enough, after-all, if it works for Epic scale bases in X-wing, why not :)

That does make for a simplified rule for the Command Dials.

... now I am going to have to test this out :P

When Armada first came out, the first thing I said to my friends was, "They're going to release an epic scale Super Star Destroyer, and a Death Star the size of a basketball." I really think that's what they're going to do.

Think on it. FFG could announce the first epic class ship for Armada. It will be as large as the CR90 is for X- Wing, and putting that thing on the table next to all the other ships will look extremely cool. They could also charge $150 for it, and people would knock themselves over trying to get ahold of one. Break the ship base into two segments like they did for X- Wing epic, and introduce a new movement template. Throw in some upgrade cards and maybe a new mechanic along the lines of Energy and you have yourself a winner. Toss in a "free" A- Wing model with some kamikaze ability for the Rebels and we're good to go.

Then a few months later FFG announces the second epic class ship for Armada: The Death Star! It's a hollow ball of plastic the size of a basketball. The bottom 25% of the sphere is cut off to give a flat surface so you can place it on a table. Add in a lot of upgrades, maybe a free model, a campaign booklet of missions to run with it, charge $200 for it and release it in 2017 for when JJ Abrams shows us the Death Star III, and watch players line up for days at the Pacific ports just to be the first to get their hands on one.

As for stats for these things, well, let me think on that… :D

in 2017 for when JJ Abrams shows us the Death Star III

Isn't it the Death Star V or VI. Don't forget the Maul DS and the DS The Hutts built. I heard the Ewoks and Jawas were building one each as well.

Hehehe ... I'm personally quite certain they'll release an SSD as an epic scale ship for Armada. There's simply too much demand for it. Obviously, it won't be perfectly to scale, but I think they could pull off a ship about 2.5 - 3 feet long.

The Death Star as an actual purchasable ship? No chance! Even with an adjusted scale, the thing would have to be much MUCH bigger than basketball sized. My guess is that the Death Star will be abstracted in game. Probably some free downloadable rules off of FFG's site, to act as a scenario, where one of the long edges would be a side of the DS.

Of course, one of the X-Wing playmats already has a DS on it as a background object. It could simply be abstracted as a background object that actually does something in game. For example, a scenario where, starting from turn 4, it could automatically target and destroy a rebel ship. And additional rules on how squadrons can attempt a trench run on it. In fact, a scenario that could more or less replicate the battle over Endor would be very very cool.

As much as I would love to see this, I don't expect it.

At Celebration, the FFG demo guy said that they have no plans to release an SSD.

I already have the DS in my Armada games............at nighttime I just open my blinds/curtains and look up into the sky where everyone can see it.

That's no Space Station. It's a moon.

A SSD in Armada wouldn't have to be all that huge though.

Since the Wave 2 Imperial Class Star Destroyer is already 1600m long and the smallest Super Star Destroyers are only 2200m, that would mean a mere 38% increase in length.

Someday, when I'm rich, this is the set I plan to get to use as a SSD in my Armada games:

At 4 feet long I think it should fit the feels-right-sliding-scale of Armada. :D

I have one of those still in the box. Maybe this will be the final push I need to build it.

I don't need to be reminded of all the Warhammer models I have that are still in their box.
