Raider, where is the crew?

By Nephlim24, in X-Wing

The model looks great and stuff, the advanced fix will be awesome as well as some new pilots for the x1. but where are the awesome crew? the CR90 came with the two crew that are down right amazing and then a couple more that are rebel only. Where is the love?

We've only seen a partial Advanced preview and an Epic preview. We have yet to see the full Advanced reveal, and the non-epic upgrades for the Raider itself remain largely unknown.

I want some new crew that will keep the decimator competitive now and in future waves.

Tarkin costs 6 points to grant or remove a focus token from one ship.

"Unimpressive... most unimpressive."

Drcimator is still currently tier 1. I think it might really take a huge turret nerf to make it go down.

And you can only put him on the Raider. :(

Maybe the Emperor will be the 'must have' card.

... At range 4, for free and unstoppable.

I'll be glad to unimpress you.

Every round, with no conditions on it save Range 1-4, at the start of the Combat Phase when every other ship has taken its action.

Is that worth two PTLs? Definitely.

I'll be glad to leave my opponents unimpressed, given the action-free, range 1-4, undeniable, focus manipulation Tarkin brings.

Tarkin will require the right team. But he'll certainly be useful in many many games.

If you run him with a bunch of Decimators he's uselessish. If you run him with or against Phantoms, Interceptors, or other high attack/agility ships he'll do just fine.

Whaaaaaat? Tarkin's ability is nothing short of amazing. He's Kyle Katarn and Palob Godahli all in one, at an extended range, for the price of half an Academy Pilot.

He can:

Give a focus to a ship that got blocked

Give a focus to a ship that's already got a TL and a solid shot a quick double modification

Give a quick dice modifying Focus to someone who has some ordnance lined up

Remove a focus from an exposed enemy ship to make it easier to pew pew pew down

Remove a focus from an enemy ship that has a solid shot at one of your ships to soften their attack

Yank a focus out of a ship that needs it for Proton Rockets or Blaster Turret

Leave enemy ships vulnerable to Opportunist

Tarkin is great, and I'd argue well worth those six points (especially considering it's Epic format only). And with the massive range 1-4, he's nearly guaranteed to always have something to contribute to the effort, every single turn. Stopping that A-Wing from putting Prockets into the exhaust pipe of your Lambda, denying Kavil that blaster turret shot, leaving Ten Numb taking an extra dice from all your nearby ships with Opportunist... I'm honestly just upset he can only do one thing a turn.

Six points becomes a lot easier to swallow in a three hundred point game where you're already dropping 100 on a centerpiece.

Tarkin's is a great ability, especially because it's for a token, not an action. Oddly enough, he's very much like his Armada counterpart. If the general utility of this isn't impressive enough I can only say this:

Rexler Brath.

REXLER BRATH.

REXLER BRATH!

I'm not saying he's useless or anything, I'd just like Tarkin better if he could affect 2 ship or if he could choose his own ship as well. The first thing I thought of after seeing him is that costs nearly as much as Slicer Tools, which can apply direct damage.

Hopefully there will be some kind of Han Solo equivalent to help the Raider make use of focus results.

Tarkin has no energy cost too.

What does strike me is that while it's an excellent card, it's subtlely excellent. Is Tarkin subtle?

For those underwhelmed, remember that:
He has no energy cost.
He triggers after every ship has moved.

He can give focus tokens to ships which already have them.

He can give focus tokens to stressed ships.
He can remove focus tokens from enemy craft, such as one that's got an APT or Proton Rocket locked and loaded, which are positioned to shoot a Sensor Jamming ship or which simply have a really good shot.

Tantive had four, Han Solo, C-3PO, R2-D2 and Princess Leia. Oh, and Raymus. So five.

Raider has four from what I can see, Emperor Palpatine, Captain Needa, Admiral Ozzel and Grand Moff Tarkin, but it also contains the Advanced fix.

At the cost of energy and only to stressed ships.

I love that fleet officer might just see use on Raiders that are kitted up to be Support boats. Comms array, Fleet officer, tarkin, and the coordinate action! Or targeting coordinator.

But still, mara jade + spicer tools...

Wait, how does Weapons Engineer and Targeting Coordinator Work?

I think it's FAQed, but I'm fairly sure you only give one lock away.

Targeting Coordinator is much nicer on a Raider than a CR90, handing out target locks to ATC TIE advanceds.

And I hadn't thought of Mara Jade!

Does the Raider have multiple firing arcs for the purpose of tactician? If so, I can see Quad guns, tactician, and spicer tools becoming a fun gimicky thing! :D

Or Ion Battery, Slicer Tools, & Tactician.
