Oh no, not you again... The Millenium Falcon :(

By DScipio, in Star Wars: Armada

We'll get plenty more fighters as time goes on. We'll get Lambdas. And they'll be awesome.

Why should they? They are shuttles not meant for fighting.

I would love to see them for scenarios and such things.

Because there are only so many ships they can use and Lambda's are iconic.

Please, dear friend, allow me to introduce you to the Imperial Raider and his infinite friends.

And Lambdas are among the best designs in all of Star Wars. They're brilliant in so many respects. They have a vague resemblance to Star Destroyers, yet are sleek, unique, and impressive in their own right. The triangle look is extremely eye catching. And as awesome as they look in white, they'll be absolutely epic in Imperial Fighter Grey-Black. There are no reasons not to incude a ship like the lambda.

The game can only support so many custom ships.

Sure there are. You might not think that the reasons against are as strong as the resons for, but that doesn't make them not exist.

The chief of them is that it's a troop transport, not a ship that anyone in their right mind would want actually engaged in a fleet battle. The spot taken up in an expansion might be better served by having a more combat-oriented ship.

I'm also not sure if there's a rebel equivalent that would maintain any symmetry between the factions. If there is a Lambda shuttle introduce for the imperials, and especially if there are any special rules to represent its primary function as a transport, there should be a rebel equivalent as well.

Personally, I don't care much either way. But it is disningenuous to say that there are no reasons not to include it.

I can`t believe they put out Han Richtofen and the Millenium Circus again. There's no way one pilot in an inferior craft could outmatch so many others. Star Wars and FFG are unrealistic. They should read a book, just not any about real wars. Those might mention the Ho Chi Minh tribe of ewoks, whose defeat of the Imperial infantry is just as unlikely to happen in real life.

Going by the few infos already leaked, I see a good chance that Han might be balanced in a way. Speed 3, 7 HP, rogue and grit. Even if they buff up his armament over the regular YT1300 and bring him to four blue anti squadron, he will still get murdered fairly easily by a TIE swarm, let alone interceptors with howlrunner. Seriously, I was fearing a 7HP squadron with counter or anything insane..

The stock YT-1300 has what looks to be Counter 1.

Dont get me wrong. I really like the Lambda, on of my favorite craft. If FFG wount release it, I will get at least 3 squads from Shapeways. However I dont see its use in a standar game. Its worthless as a fighter/bomber. Its unfluffy to use them as a commandcraft.

I have my (rarley liked) boarding houserules and will us them for Scenarios (I will play some X-Wing, TIE-Fighter missions, or just: Bring Grand Moff/Bothan Spy X from ship A to ship B while under attack...)

I agree. This is totally the part about Star Wars that is unrealistic. This stuff. Right here. The rest is completely believable and could totally happen.

And because we tell a fairy tale, lets put all the very rest of logic and physical rules aside....

Yes, but that thing is only speed 2 and not a hero squadron with probably two brace tokens.. I was fearing a millenium falcon with counter 2 (or even more), easily reducing incoming damage with bracing while dishing out enough to hurt my nimble TIEs..

Just putting this out there as personal feelings. I don't care about canon or Expanded Universe or any of that but....

I'd be a LOT happier with the Rogues and Villains set if all the generic versions of the ships were faction neutral.

So absolutely no bounty hunters or pirates or mercs ever fly a YT-1300?

Milk Farmers turn their nose up at getting inside a Firespray-31?

I'm not asking for the named characters to jump faction, that would be stupid. But the non-unique ships REALLY should be able to be used by either player. If FFG somehow reads this and decides to consider it, I'd love them even more. But with half the set being ships I can't use I highly doubt I'll be getting more than one. (Yes, I know the multitude of options out there but I dislike buying stuff with the intent of getting rid of a portion of it) I'd like to have the options to use the ships, which I imagine will all have different stats as being mirror images between factions would be pretty lack luster.

Just my opinion.

It just silly. Just as silly as having the Cr.90 and Neb-B Rebel only.

Thanks, I really think Armada is even better with some cool sceanrios. (Anyone remember the X-Wing Mission: "Capture the Priam" ?)

It's worthhless in a dogfight. I'll give you that. But so are some of the rogue ships. Fluffwise it makes an excellent sniper.(That could be an interesting design choice... Have it have consequences if it doesn't have escorts that aren't also heavy.) Either way I think it'll be a really cool ship when they make it.

Fluffwise its just a shuttle :P and I dont even know how sniping in a space battle works. ^_^

As you said, its surley one of the coolest and most iconic ships of Star Wars.

It doesn't translate well in Armada, but it's an effective strategy in other settings. It's a cheap slow high firepower ship. That's a viable niche.

I predict Fat Han will dominate the Wave 2 meta for a while. Nerf boost on small base squadrons FFG

back in X-wing miniatures, a necroed thread is "fel's wrathed"

well, this thread's been Rieekaned

I need to believe that fighter squadrons are 12 fighters for armada to work from a fluff perspective. So that is what I am sticking with.

I'm ok with han and the falcon being bad ass.

Yes, Han is a bad ass in the Falcon

And when Han has eaten something that upset his stomach, he will have a bad ass in the Falcon's toilet

Uhmm... The Falcon do come equipped with a toilet?... right?

Looks like you were wrong! :P

Its all boba dominated :)

What the heck is an Aluminum Falcon anyway?

The Falcon is pretty **** well armed. It regularly took out multiple tie fighters while only sustaining minimal damage if any.

In terms of game balance, 7HP on a squadron isnt much. On average, 3 activates can take it out or at least bring it to 1hp. Not a single fighter in this game lasts for long when you really want it dead because they have no shield rules/self repair options.

Nah, since all fighters come with turrets in this game, it's good :)

Seems like YT-1300s are perfect escorts for B-Wing swarms. They protect the better Bs, shoot back at everything trying to hurt them, have hefty HP, and they can fly escort. The only way it could be better is by giving them some kind of defense tokens.

If only a pilot in, say, a moldy crow, could do just that...

Five pages of frantic speculation that turned into much ado about nothing.

Ah sweet Internet, how I'd miss you if you were gone :D
