Ideas for next purchase plz

By Angerland, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello Wing Commanders!

So! I have some room on the credit card to go out later today and get 2 expansions. I'd like to expand on my Empire list which you can see in my signature. I'm working now so I can't really plot well and I thought I'd ask the hive mind here for ideas. I'd mainly be playing this list vs my regular opponent who is in to the rebels right now. I should mention that I'm holding off on a Decimator for a bit yet.

I will say I love the look of the TIE interceptors, well most all the TIE variants.

Ok let's see what ya got! Oh and the person(s) who pick the expansions I do purchase will get a public thank you here on the boards.

Assuming you mean 2 small ship expansions, I'd go for a Tie Defender and TIE Phantom.

Two really unique and fun ships that you can get away with only ever owning one of each ..... but there's nothing to stop you from getting more than 2 :)

Imperial Aces is an excellent purchase too - but you've already got an interceptor so you might prefer to go for variety.

Lambda Shuttle is surprisingly good also - takes quite a bit of getting used to though so maybe leave that for a later purchase.

Don't write off the Bomber either - ordnance is a bit underwhelming but the cheapest pilot with the cheapest bomb in the pipe is great fun to play and a steal for 18 points - plus Captain Jonus goes great with Firesprays with heavy laser cannons - particularly Krassis Trellis.

The Imperial Aces is a great set. The Decimator is a solid choice for the Empire as well.

Good start Commanders!

Hmm I suppose I could grab a TIE fighter for Howlrunner. I do like the Phantom and Defender though

Phantom and defender also have some nice upgrade cards like Predator or Tactician. If you like interceptors, imperial aces is a very nice box too, push the limit cards, interceptor titles, carnor jax

What about a bomber and a defender?

I think you'd get more mileage out of a Phantom - Phantoms have a really unique mechanic that's great fun and a genuine challenge to learn and master.

The Bomber is a little more workmanlike, so while it's a solid dependable little ship that's not without a trick or two of its own, it doesn't have as much going on as the Phantom.

More TIES are always good, but never feel like you need a particular expansion just for the cards.

Have a word with your Rebel playing opponent - split the cost of another core set - you take the TIES (and associated cards and dials) and he keeps everything else.

That way you might be able to stretch to 2 TIES plus 1 additional expansion of your choice.

You've just got some room on your credit card. What to get is easy: NOTHING! If you're keeping a CC maxed out you'd do much better paying it down then you will buying more toys. With better credit management you should be able to greatly cut any interest you are paying. That Interest saved is almost like more money earned which would eventually enable you to get those toys without going it costing you eternally. Sorry for the lecture but fiscal irresponsibility on so many levels is destroying society.

Now if you want to fly Imperials and your collection is a Core set, Interceptor Expansion and Firespray expansion I'd say go for anything except a second Interceptor (Aces is fine), Firespray, a Shuttle, Advanced, or Bomber. TIE Fighter would be good for Howlrunner and perhaps Swarm Tactics although you'd still be very swarm light. ImpAces would actually be pretty good for many reasons. The Defender and Phantom are both interesting ships.

Get Imperial Aces or a Phantom; either (or both) can help build some pretty exciting lists with what you have.

With Imperial Aces you'll love what Push the Limit does for Soontir Fel's Interceptor, plus give you a nice Royal Guard TIE wingman for him.

A shuttle and a firespray...excellent choices.

Cheers!

StevenO, lecture not needed. I'm an adult working an honest days work for an honest days pay and know how to manage my finances.

On to what I ended up with: my FLGS was woefully stocked and I won't have time to get out to the Fantasy Flight Event Center for another Week or two. For the Empire my local had TIE fighters, advanced one phantom and to Decimators

I picked up the one phantom a TIE fighter and a Tie Advanced. I can play a fun theme trench run list or have a little fun with the Firespray and some friends. Plus I'm happy with the upgrade cards included.

The TIE Advanced is fun to fly but in terms of firepower you might find it a little bit limp straight out of the box.

If your regular gaming buddy has no objections to you using unreleased cards you can beef it up with these:

I know the advanced is a bit underwhelming until the raider comes out but it has some good cards and, well, it's Darth Vaders ship.

On a side note, I woke up this morning and the wife told me she picked up something for me on clearance at Barnes and Nobel. I was thinking a book or something, haven't seen x-wing products at ours in many months. She pulled out a rebel transport/x-wing set she got for 50% off!

Regarding that new ATC card.....does that mean no matter what the dice come up it causes a crit?

Kind of - you may add 1 crit result to your dice pool during the "modify dice" step of the attack phase - on the condition that you have a target lock and you don't spend it.

So assuming you roll a hit and a blank, your roll then becomes Hit Crit Blank.

Your opponent still gets a chance to cancel those results with his defence roll, so ATC doesn't "cause" a crit as such - it just adds one to your roll.

Make sense?

So if your dice do not have a hit of any kind showing you can still add a crit, provided you have the target lock?

Yes - whatever you roll plus 1 crit result on top - provided the following conditions are met:

You add the crit result at the correct step during the attack phase (i.e you can't decide to add it at the end after your opponent has rolled his green dice)

You have a Target Lock

You don't Spend the Target Lock modifying your roll

The attack is made with your primary weapon (forgot to mention that in the last post)

No problem. I suspect the trigger to that was an exaggeration and my "lecture" should be taken as mild sarcasm. The sad thing is there are people who do go around with credit cards maxed out all time while paying monthly minimums who are buying things they don't need. As much as we all love X-Wing and StarWars in general it is all a want and probably not the place to put money you really don't have.

As for the cards you picked up the TIE Fighter and Phantom are pretty good choices. The Advanced in interesting for Vader (now you'll just want to find an Engine Upgrade) and when the Raider comes up with those upgrades it may even become an in demand ship again; of course that means getting the cards from the Raider.

With that Rebel Transport you can even put out a respectable Rebel force. Not that you couldn't before.

Indeed both my Imperials and Rebs got a shot in the arm. Still want to add a defender and bomber to the imperials and after that 2 B-wings to the Rebels. Should be able to make some good lists out of those combos

Make it a B-Wing and Rebel Aces. That may get an A-Wing but those aren't too expensive and the matching Expansion includes a PtL which is a favorite of Interceptor pilots everywhere.
