dice and character sheets

By OriginalGamer8233, in Game Masters

I just picked EotE to run with my gaming group and I'm writing out character sheets via photocopy.

but I'm not sure how to fill in dice under the skills.

am I to assume just put a colored dot for each die?

or is there a more sensible sollution that doesn't require a new character sheet for every level-up?

keep in mind I prefer to hand write character sheets, I find digital tools to be more of a nuisance than a help.

OG-

Instead of colored dots you could write in pencil the die that the skill can use. For example a character with 3 Intelligence and 2 ranks of Astrogation (which uses Intelligence) would have a dice set of YYG. Writing this in pencil means a skill or trait change is simple to update.

I thought of that a little while ago, but I tend to gm for younger audiences, so your idea may work, and if not I'll go with my original, or possibly with a combination of the two with colored pencils or erasable gel pens.

thankyou

You're welcome :)

To go further with truncating dice labels, the following seem to be the standard

  • Y = Yellow
  • G = Green
  • R = Red
  • P = Purple
  • B = Boost (the blue one)
  • S = Setback (the black one)
  • F = Force die

Putting these definitions on a cheat card would be handy too

The standard is depends on who you ask.

IMO it's best to just call the dice by their proper names: Ability, Proficiency, Difficulty, Challenge; especially if you're already using "Boost," "Setback," and "Force" dice. At least when you're speaking. The reason for this is that it attaches meaning to the dice rolls.

"Two ability dice" sounds more meaningful than "two greens."

"Upgrading your Difficulty die to a Challenge die" sounds cooler than "upgrading your purple to a red."

"You take a setback" sounds more interesting than "you take a black die." And so on and so forth.

And if you're working with the physical dice, pushing them forward on the table as you speak, there's really little reason to say "green" and "yellow."

To answer the OP more specifically, my first thought was that you might be able to use re-useable stickers, but I also like the idea of erasable colored pencils.
