I am a player in a soon-to-begin RT-style campaign. The campaign differs from traditional RT in that the players are not members of an RT dynasty and, thus, there is no warrant of trade. The players are crew of a system ship/trader, plying the void in a single, GM-made system. The vessel itself is a small tramp freighter, which can be crewed by as few as 3 people. Think of this as a sort of Firefly in the 40k universe.
I will be playing the Captain of said vessel, but we are in need of a mechanic. This character is not a tech-priest. Think of it as a sort of tech savant. A plain of 'oomie with a working understand of machines and the mundane methods of making them work - i.e. no incense or prayers to the omnissiah are required. Both the GM and I understand that we are asking someone to step into a sort of pre-fabriacted role, but there is plenty of room to be creative with the character's backstory. Most importantly, how they came to know the things they know - which few outside the mechanicum know.
