Campaign Open Groups Setup

By JLeisten, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

The mission tells me what Deployment cards to use for my Initial Group and my Reserve Group. Then I secretly choose my Open Group Deployment cards.

I'm not allowed to choose the same Deployment cards previously selected by the mission? For example, if a regular Stormtrooper is in the Initial Group, then I can't pick a second regular Stormtrooper group for my Open.Group.

If I had a regular Stormtrooper group in the Initial Group, could I choose the Elite Stormtroopers for my Open Group?

yes you can choose a second regular stormtrooper group as an open group if the initial group has 1 in it as there are 2 available to be selected

yes you can choose the elite if the regular is in the initial

its easier for selecting open groups if you remove the deployment cards the mission tells you to use for the initial and reserve groups from the supply and put them to one side in two piles face up for initial group and face down for reserve group, then what ever deployment cards are left you can chose from as open groups (unique deployment cards need to be won before they can be chosen as open groups)

Thanks!

The rule that confused me was under Mission Setup, Deployment and Setup, Open Groups, the first point which says:

ยป He may choose any non-Rebel Deployment cards not

used in the initial or reserve groups. He cannot choose

an ally that he has not gained as a reward.

I was reading it as, I used a Stormtrooper card in the Initial Group, so I can't choose a second Stormtrooper card for the Open Group. A Stormtrooper card has already been used .

You're saying I should read it as, I used a Stormtrooper card in the Initial Group, so I can't choose that specific card and move it to the Open Group. But, I can choose a second Stormtrooper card that is not being used for the Open Group.

Note the rule you quoted talks about choosing cards (not names of cards). So, the initial and reserve groups of the mission use some set of cards, and the remaining cards are available to select from. You'll find that FFG's rules are extremely precise. Don't read anything into them, and try to be very literal with what you read.

You can deploy an open group during any status phase (after increasing your threat) to any active deployment points. Usually it's the green ones, but mission rules can activate additional ones or deactivate some,
