There are ways to mitigate this. I like to have an epic game with numerous players. If you break the points up into chunks, then it's not too hard. There are other things you can do, like don't control a lot of ships of the same PS. It just bogs the game down. Also, the more special rules (unique pilots and upgrades) you have, the slower it becomes. Try to stick to generics. It's rather thematic that way, anyways.

Epic is a ton of fun. It's a mkre tactical, long term experience

Using all generic sounds like fun, have you done this? and is there a problem with shooting/moving order?

I really like the idea of thematic play via generic pilots.
