Y wing Pilots

By JacknifeUK, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi Guys

Don't know if this is the place to ask this, but I hope so.

So I'm getting into the game, thinking of Lists, learning Lingo etc.

So I'm a personal sucker for the Y wing for some reason, but does any one know why nether of the named Pilots can take an Elite Pilot Talent? Horton Salk is PS 8 for goodness sake, how can that not be considered "Elite"

I'm trying to think of something that would break the game if they could, but am coming up short

The popular theory was that both of the died during the trench run, but that didn't last through Wave 3.

It is a bone of contention with many a player, though.

Still, if you desperately need to buff your Y-Wings, with the past wave and the wave upcoming, they gained the ability to carry two bombs and attack twice in the same round.

Also, you can trade your Astromech slot for an EPT for one more point, but no-one really does that. Still....

Horton didn't die in any Trench Run....

As to the OP, there is 1 Wishbone driver with an EPT: Kavil on the S&V side

While I can't answer your question about why Y-wing pilots don't have EPTs, there is a way to equip one: the R2-D6 astromech, which comes with the Rebel Transport expansion card allows a ship with pilot skill 3 or higher to equip an EPT. Unfortunately,, that is one of the larger expansions, but a great one, nonetheless.

I wasn't aware Salm even flew in the Battle of Yavin. My understanding generally was that the surviving Pilots were Luke Wedge Han and Keyan Farlander (flying a Y wing), but I stand to be corrected.

I have a Transport on order, really for the X-wing Pilots. Like the look of Wes ability. But I don't want to give up the Astromech slot as I have an R2 in there to make them much more manoeuvrable when stressed. But hey, I'll take a look when it arrives. Thanks guys

Correct, Horton was Gray Leader at Endor

And from what I've read, it looks like Salm didn't join the rebellion until after the Battle of Yavin.

Anyone that flew through the death stars superstructure and survived, surely deserves an EPT!!!

The Rebels could do with a few more named Y-Wing pilots too. It would be cool to see a few cross-over pilots in the future, like Farlander in his Y-Wing.

Dont know if this is related, but it looks like the named K wing pilots dont get EPS either.

Nope, doesn't appear so. TIE Punisher pilots seem a bit short on that front also.

I don't understand why people always associate pilot skill with elite talents...

Green Squadron Pilots get 1 at only 3 PS they can have 2 elite talents with A-wing Test Pilot.

Black Squadron Pilots get 1 at only 4 PS

These aren't even named pilots... It has nothing to do with PS. Just whether or not FFG feels the card should have it.

As for trying to get more out of your Y-wings... I suggest getting a nice variety of torpedoes, bombs, turrets, and astromechs to play with as well as Extra Munitions (when it comes out), Bomb Loadout, deadeye, BTL-A4 Y-Wing, and Munitions Failsafe. That ought to give you a wide range of options to choose from.

Extra Munitions will let you fire off two shots of any torpedo while costing just 1 torpedo slot and 2 points so it is like taking two of a high cost torp for just the cost of 1 torp +2pts. Pairs great with Munitions Faolsafe to make sure you get hits with both shots too.

Extra Munitions and Bomb Loadout gives you two shots with your chosen bomb.

BTL-A4 let's you shoot off your turret after your primary allowing you to attack twice in one round at the cost of your turret's 360° arc.

You can also get some Scum Y-wings to mix it up a bit.

We don't even know much about the new bombs that come with the K-wing and Tie Punisher yet...

I would say this is a lot of options.
