Can the VT-49 Decimator get a defense die?

When shooting at the decemator at range 3, does it get 1 defense die?

Yes, assuming we are talking about the attacker's primary weapon here of course.

There are other ways for the Decimator to get additional defense dice as well. Obstructions and a small number of upgrades could also let the Decimator throw some green dice down when attacked as well.

Cool. I just wanted to make sure that the big fatty ship gained a defense die at range 3. I was curious if it NEVER had any defense die. Good to know you can make the fat boy get a little chance to defend!

It's also worth pointing out that the green dice from range 3 and obstacles are NOT bonuses to agility, they are extra defense dice. If the decimator has effects that are reducing its agility (like wedge shooting it the turn it used expose) it would still get the extra defense dice, even though it's agility was reduced to -2.

A couple of things to consider:

While there are a number of effects in the game that reduce the agility of the defender, your agility can never be less than zero.

When defending against a primary weapon attack at range 3, and / or an attack that is obstructed by an asteroid, your agility value remains zero, but you receive a defence bonus of 1 additional defence dice per effect.

So if for example a Decimator is defending against Wedge ( who's ability reduces your agility by 1) at range 3 through an asteroid, the Decinator's agility us reduced by 1 from 0 to 0 (because it can't be less than 0), then receives 1 bonus defence dice for range 3 and 1 more for the asteroid obstruction.

Something a lot of people forget is that In addition to missiles and torpedoes, Cannon weapons (ion, Heavy Laser, Mangler etc) are also secondary weapons - secondary weapons do not receive range bonuses either for attack or defence.

So defenders don't receive an extra dice for range 3 and likewise the attacker does not get an extra red for range 1 when using the cannon.

So if for example a Decimator is defending against Wedge ( who's ability reduces your agility by 1) at range 3 through an asteroid, the Decinator's agility us reduced by 1 from 0 to 0 (because it can't be less than 0), then receives 1 bonus defence dice for range 3 and 1 more for the asteroid obstruction.

Even more extreme: Wedge with outmaneuver attacks a VT-49 with expose at range 3 through obstacles with his primary attack.

The VT-49 has agility -3, which is increased to zero. It rolls zero defense dice for agility plus one defense die for range and one defense die for obstruction for a total of two defense dice.

Best-case scenario for Decimator: Stealth Device, range 3, through a ship equipped with EM Emitter for 5 green dice.

The stealth device does increase Agility though, so Wedge (or expose) would nullify that one.

Best-case scenario for Decimator: Kenkirk with no shields and at least 1 damage card , Stealth Device, range 3, through a ship equipped with EM Emitter for 5 6 green dice.

There, even better!

Kenkirk : +1 Agility (could be nullified by Wedge, Outmaneuver, etc...)

Stealth : +1 Agility (could be nullified by Wedge, Outmaneuver, etc...)

Range 3 : +1 defense die

EM Emitter : +3 defense dice

Total: 6 defense dice!!

I want to see the game where that happens... Kenkirk manages to take enough damage to wipe off shields and get a damage card but still has Stealth Device. Possible, but difficult. If this ever happens to anyone, pictures are required! :D

IIRC there is also something that will let you discard another card to boost Agility for a round.
