So, in my quest to devise a way to keep stuff in place, consider this:

A large, vinyl, magnetic mat. They sell them. They are mainly used for magnetic signs like you see on vehicles. However, I'm thinking about using one as a play area, and putting something on my bases (magnetic tape, glue a magnet to it, something) to keep things in place.

Of course my opponent won't benefit from this, unless he has the same setup.

I could get a roll, black, 2' by 10'. Cut it in three 2X3 strips and butt them together.

They also do custom . . . way more expensive though.

Anyone think this might work? Already been tried? Or am I just getting crazy with this . . .

Magnets in the guides for the maneuvre tool would have been great, probably a bit expensive for them to mass produce though.

I ordered a yoga mat for $17 that is about the same material as the non-neoprene side of a mouse pad. It should drastically cut down on spatial solar flare winds moving my ships accidentally (sliding). If you are willing to spend a bit of money, check out Grip Mats. You could also just go to Walmart and get some 1'x12' black shelf liner material and then cut it at 6' lengths and put that down as well.

I was thinking of doing this and then adding a felt cloth overtop that I can decorate to be spacy. This would also allow me to magnatize my obstacles and objective tokens

If you want to test your theory before investing, they sell magnetic vent covers at the hardware store. I'd imagine it's a very simular material.
