Magnetic Gaming Mat System

By charlesanakin, in X-Wing

I have invented a magnetic mat which can be used for X Wing. When I started playing X Wing one of the things that I found disingenuous was ship movement. For a game in which many players are using lasers to be precise and with firing solutions ships frequently get bumped or jostled or even simply moved slightly with the template. I've seen some of the fixes such as rubber bands, gel nubs, weights, etc... and I thought it could be better. So after a great deal of research and development I came up with a rollable portable magnetic mat system.

Sounds like a good idea - do you have a prototype available for viewing?

I've added a picture of the Falcon and an X Wing clinging vertically to the mat. The price will be comparable to a regular mat.

I've seen it done once before, but it was kinda pricey. Definitely interested in it though

Base to mat is fine, but will the models stay on the plastic posts when playing upside down :o

War Mats will be offering a magnetic map solution as a KS in May. We'll have to see what he offers.

Looks good. What sort of magnets are you using for the ship bases, and how are you affixing them?

SOme of us like to magnetize our ships to their stands as well. Problem solved :P

Those are lovely but I can supply the magnetic (which is better than magnetically receptive) mats for about $40 each unprinted and for $10-20 more print a nice graphic on it. I'm aware I'm not the first just the most functional and affordable. That's the creator/inventor part.

And for those of us looking for a finished product, it saves us the trouble of constructing our own (which is especially helpful if your work schedule is insane, and/or you take forever with craft projects).
