That bow in Suns of Fortune...

By Ferretz, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Here's a short question about that bow in Suns of Fortune.. the Corellian Compound Bow.

It is described as having a draw weight between 55 and 100 KGs! Well, as a hobbyist archer, and a fairly strong person, I think my compound bow at 65lbs is a bit on the heavy side.

Maybe this is a case where some editor got a message like "Change all those measurements to the metric system!" and he didn't check to see that measuring pull weight in lbs is the standard. So change that to lbs, and it would be realistic.

Anyone else given this rather obscure issue any thought? :)

You may be a fairly strong person, but the bows have to be able to handle arm-ripping wookies. Also, as a compound bow, it's also possible they're talking about effective draw weight, not the amount of force the user has to pull back with. Also possible the messed up/made up numbers, wouldn't be the first time or first RPG to do so.

I find a 65lbs draw weight a little light, myself, when dealing with a compound bow. With a composite recurve, it's about right for me. I'd just chalk it up to them not converting the draw weight right. A compound bow with 55kg draw weight? That's 121 pounds! Most people would be unable to draw the string back without serious effort, and those of us who could would still find it a bit of a hassle. And 100kg draw?

Fuggetaboutit.

Yeah. Just chalk it up to bad conversion.

Either that, or as Quicksilver hints, maybe the pulley system on a Corellian compound bow is more efficient than those we have here on Earth. After all, draw weight - at least at the back end of the draw - is mitigated by the bow's mechanism.

Well, it also says that children use the 50kg versions of the bow.

Just picked a random, high end compound bow from a web store, and it comes in 40-50lbs, 50-60lbs and 60-70lbs. Remember, this is what you have to pull when drawing the bow.

Guess it's just a small error, and its meant to be lbs. :)
