I am necromancing the HELL out of this thread because yesterday, I won the Cooper's Cave Glen Falls, NY Store Championship with four K-Wings. Four Warden Squadron Pilots with Autoblaster Turrets.
I wasn't expecting to win. I mean that in the kindest way; I figured it would be fun, and I'd learn a lot, and might make some AGI-dependent Aces sweat a little. I have the utmost respect for my opponents because I played four fantastic games (sixteen competitors so no cut after four rounds of Swiss).
What I wasn't counting on was how brutally effective my K-Wings were going to be against the most popular pilots present. As the day wore on I was learning better how to judge when and where to SLAM, how to make the most of my actions, and when to break off entirely to start another run.
Here's where it gets weird though: I didn't face a single 2AGI ship in those four rounds. It was 1 or 3. Also, three games in a row I faced the same exact Soontir Fel build (you know what it is by heart I'm sure: PtL, Autothrusters, Royal Guard TIE, Stealth Device). Autoblasters don't care how many dice or tokens you have. It was absurd watching two attack dice cut through Fel like butter. Maybe it was unusual because the Autoblaster Cannon is so hard to utilise and so isn't a common experience; I'm not sure. I've used the Ab Turrets before in a 3xThug+Xizor list and enjoyed them, but wasn't sure they could carry a list.
It turns out I was wrong. I really enjoyed myself yesterday, I had an excellent time with everyone at the tourney, and I played some of the toughest matches of X-Wing in my career. I want to say thanks, and happily remind everyone that it is entirely the forum's fault that I have four K-Wings in the first place.
