I need to be convinced not to get 3 K-Wings

By Tsiegtiez, in X-Wing

I am necromancing the HELL out of this thread because yesterday, I won the Cooper's Cave Glen Falls, NY Store Championship with four K-Wings. Four Warden Squadron Pilots with Autoblaster Turrets.

I wasn't expecting to win. I mean that in the kindest way; I figured it would be fun, and I'd learn a lot, and might make some AGI-dependent Aces sweat a little. I have the utmost respect for my opponents because I played four fantastic games (sixteen competitors so no cut after four rounds of Swiss).

What I wasn't counting on was how brutally effective my K-Wings were going to be against the most popular pilots present. As the day wore on I was learning better how to judge when and where to SLAM, how to make the most of my actions, and when to break off entirely to start another run.

Here's where it gets weird though: I didn't face a single 2AGI ship in those four rounds. It was 1 or 3. Also, three games in a row I faced the same exact Soontir Fel build (you know what it is by heart I'm sure: PtL, Autothrusters, Royal Guard TIE, Stealth Device). Autoblasters don't care how many dice or tokens you have. It was absurd watching two attack dice cut through Fel like butter. Maybe it was unusual because the Autoblaster Cannon is so hard to utilise and so isn't a common experience; I'm not sure. I've used the Ab Turrets before in a 3xThug+Xizor list and enjoyed them, but wasn't sure they could carry a list.

It turns out I was wrong. I really enjoyed myself yesterday, I had an excellent time with everyone at the tourney, and I played some of the toughest matches of X-Wing in my career. I want to say thanks, and happily remind everyone that it is entirely the forum's fault that I have four K-Wings in the first place.

the thing I can think of to stop you:

look at those things.. k-wings are BUTTUGLY (without modifications).

now, with that out of the way: they are a blast to fly and fly against.. a little less so with regen-o-randa, but still kinda fun.

slam alone is so much fun..

*seeing the board* "yeah, well.. I don't think so" *slam to gtfo -> priceless :D*

congrats! never even thought about flying 4! ;)

no agi-2? no poe?!

sounds weird, as he is "the hotness" ATM.

well, if ever I should get another k, I might give in an try that list, too :D

Buy 3, sell the TLTs from the last one for $5 each. Three K-wings for close to the price of two

Just what it says on the tin. I was down for one, maybe two when they first revealed Wave VII, but now with the preview article and the unhealthy amount of discussion on the forums, I'm pretty sure I desperately need three of the SLAMtastic bombers.

Imagine, if you will, a friendly 100 point match in which your opponent sets down three K-Wings. Two of them are PS2 (approx 20-23 points) equipped with

—Advanced SLAM

—Bombardier

—Proximity Mines

—Cluster Mines

—Extra Munitions

and about 32-35 points apiece. They SLAM up the sides of the board and Advanced SLAM to drop ALL THE MINES. The last however many points are on a lightly-built Miranda Doni who skirts the field waiting for an opportune shot and SLAMming or regenerating as needed.

What do you do, oh friendly forumite? What can you do?

Please somebody talk me out of how great this is going to be.

K Wings are ugly. That ought to be enough.

They are definitely the ugliest ship in the game. If you put a 1/270 Jabba on a flight stand it would be better to look at.

Well, clearly the original poster wasn't convinced. Even got 4 of them.

if you make a list of 3 K wings, and then list them out like people do here (BBYYZ for example) we are going to have problems

That said, I personally want a squadron of three of them for epic. Still waiting on a big board game with like 5 people per side.

Oh don't worry, I can skirt the issue by calling it a Triple-K list. Also, please don't take any offense if I start bragging about the inherent superiority of a 3-K list, or how it might be just naturally better than other types of minority lists, as it's all in good fun.

Triple K? How about "We Three Kwings"?

Well, clearly the original poster wasn't convinced. Even got 4 of them.

And

The K-wing is a beautiful swan compared to the E-wing and its forehead laser.

Congrats on the win.

Congrats on the win.

This is true, but the E Wing doesn't set a particularly high bar...

If you win with three K-wings... then your opponent can claim he was killed by the KKK.

Oi! You leave the Mighty Space Albatross alone!

I was responding to the K-wing being the ugliest thing in the game sentiment.

I run 2X Warden bombers + Gemmer Sojan as beam magnets. Works wonders against aces list.

I wish I could try running 8X Wardens in epic someday for a true bombing run experience.

I find all the hate on the K-Wing's look...odd. It looks neither more nor less silly to me as a fighter whose 'wings' need to 'spread out' during flight, with odd spindly antennae on their forward ends...or as 'silly' as balls with warped hexagons on either side that are supposed to represent 'solar collectors'.

If anything, with the K-Wing at least, you can clearly see what it uses to propel itself, land on, and shoot with...; )

Looks fine to me. *shrug*

the K is an absolute beauty

failure to appreciate belies lack of taste

That's a nice Y-wing repaint! The red engine caps are reminding of another ship though...

baby K-wing

Congrats on the win.

well.. now you're getting desperate :D

-anything- is nicer than an ewing.. doesn't make it look good, though ;)

Well not having a cannon that'll fry the pilot a foot away is a pretty major thing. I guess I think K-wings look neat but in a really goofy sort of way.
