and if so, were you as surprised as i was that it was a hardcover book? i must have missed that in the preview articles, but this thing is so nice! i can't wait to play it.
has anyone else received Heirs of Blood yet?
Not yet, but I'm looking forward to tracking down a copy within next week. I agree, it does look beautiful.
I've got mine, I was surprised by how much fluff they put in there. 2nd edition has always been lacking in fluff so it was a step in the right direction, the linkage to runewars was especially welcome.
Oooh, what kind of fluff? I haven't received mine yet.

there's like 7 pages of backstory on the Farrows
very neat, although i'm not sure my group would be willing to sit through me reading all of it (the book does say that these stories are not required to play the campaign but it may enhance your enjoyment)

Pages 3-13 are fluff and artwork. It includes some runewars art and a bit about waiqar. Mostly about the farrows.
What's the general appearance of the encountermaps? Did they manage to achieve the interconnectedness of Nerekhall or are the maps more reminscent to the "one path with rooms" style of the original campaign?
Additionally how many quests are in the book?
I would have loved to see more information about this campaign-book, afterall we did only get this one news-article a few months ago. Considering how this got delayed silently I find it strange that there wasn't a release news-article or the like.
Additionally how many quests are in the book?
I don't actually have mine yet, but I was told there are 32 quests in the book.
here is an "unboxing" video I found on BGG. enjoy
also this BGG user has summed up his first impressions on the book: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1359708/initial-impressions

FFG said there are 32 encounters not quests.
I saw the video there are 1 introduction, 1 finale, 2 interludes, 7 act I quests and 8 act II quests, making a total of 19 quests.
Edited by DAMazthe final quests are three encounters now.
Edited by zwara81Mine just got dropped off by FedEx this morning. Haven't seen it yet though. And we are finishing up our current Descent Campaign next week. Although Heirs of Blood will have to wait a bit as we are going to start Imperial Assault next.

Thanks for posting the video. I am surprised how well the book was looking. I thought it would have been just a simple softcover with a couple of quests and nothing more. But FantasyFlightGames really went above and beyond with this.
I'm going to pre order this and hopefully get it next month.
Whew... took three minutes for that dude to actually open the book. Found myself basically telling him to open the 'dang book' out loud. Nothing really got spoiled either, with the exception of some lieuts.
Looks interesting and can't wait to get it. Seeing as how I only have the Base Game, LotW, and a few lieutenant packs, I need to collect some of the other sets first.

Sweet.

Quests and maps seem very varied, some quests are 2 encounters and some are large 1 encounter maps. Dead or drowning uses the 7 largest room tiles and 9 long corridors plus lots of smaller bits. Lieutenants appear in a lot of quests, sometime more than one in an encounter.
Walked in store. Saw it on shelf. Paged thru book. Wished I had 25 bucks to spare.
Loving it, a wonderfully high quality product that bodes well for future releases in this style.
Man, I was looking at the last quest in this book. I really don't want to spoil it so I'll just say....
that's gonna be one helluva quest.
I love that they started to reuse existing components in new quests as well. Also interesting to see some actual lore weaved around the quests/campaign to give it a bit more depth.
Edited by GridashGot it. Love it. A lot of time and effort has gone into the production of this book, and it shows. Great addition to Descent.
I am in agreement with others, that it is great to see some more lore included, and some new variations on the quest and encounter formula. Everyone go out and pick this book up, so FFG will continue with this line. The prospect of getting a shelf of campaign books which use a variety of combinations of expansion content, and greatly expand the lore of Terrinoth, is exciting.
Looks fantastic. A great way to get more out of the Descent experience. I look forward to playing this campaign a lot. The hardcover book with lore and great art and makes it feel more epic somehow. I agree 100% with Madmartigan, I hope they take this further and start creating campaigns that combine different expansions in interesting ways.
And of course, might give them some incentive to make a few more box expansions.
So, the new rules for 2-player game and drawing shop items, are you guys gonna use them in the other campaings as well?
The book itself looks great, they also added a small flavor tekst to help you choose quest. This seems to me like the absolute best made campaing so far, still having to try the quests. The next quest almost always depends on who won the last quest, not that i allow a choice but depending on the winner you are told which one to play. I like this if it adds more flavor tekst.
And of course if the campaign books are successful, I am sure that the Imperial Assault fans will get some books as well.
