Battle Meditation - Targets and Questions

By Tyrjala, in Game Mechanics

Hey Guys! Couple questions about Battle Meditation.

1. Can Battle Meditation be used on yourself?

2. Do the targets you use battle meditation on know it's being used on them?

3. Do other individuals in the fight know who battle meditation is being used on? (I'm assuming force sensitive individuals here)

4. The magnitue and range upgrades: Do they need to be activated with every activation of battle meditation? So it costs 3 force points to use magnitude, range, and give success? Is that the point of the strength upgrade, to use 2 force points per success instead of 3?

Thanks!

1) By default, probably not, since you technically can't be "engaged" with yourself. That and it goes against the idea of Battle Meditation being a "support" style of power that allows the Force user to make their allies awesome.

2) That's up to the GM, but odds are they'd have some idea that they're being "driven" to perform better in battle, but nothing definite if the allies don't already know about the Force user having this ability. To pull from the EU, in the Thrawn Trilogy it's discussed that the Emperor was using battle meditation to increase the efficiency of the Imperial fleet during the Battle of Endor, and that after his death the fleet's efficiency dropped considerably. The viewpoint character (Captain Palleon) dismissed the idea, but later data from when an insane Jedi Master used battle meditation to bolster Thrawn's little fleet shows a marked improvement, he's forced to admit that the idea has merit.

3) Nope. As a GM, you could allow for the Sense power to be used to perhaps suss out if someone's being affected, or perhaps allow a Perception check to notice certain opponents are more effective than others, but that's all a GM decision.

4) Yes, the upgrades needed to be activated with every activation of Battle Meditation, same as any other Force Power. The Strength Upgrade simply lets you add an additional success, so activating that plus the base power plus the Magnitude and Range Upgrades would cost 5 Force Points in total (1 for the base power, 1 for magnitude, 1 for range, 2 for strength).
