Same Specialization different source

By Coyote, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Can somebody direct me to which book and page that specifically says that a character cannot have the same specialization from different careers. ex. : Ace (Driver) and Explorer (Driver), or Technician (Slicer) and Spy (Slicer)

although not spelled out on the forum, this was answered by a dev (i think Sam) on the Order 66 podcast.

Under 'Step 6: Invest Experience Points' of the Character Creation chapters of AoR and EotE there is the guidelines for "Aquiring NEW Specializations"

the text in this section covers spending Xp to gain access to the talent trees and skills of NEW Specializations, since the 2 Driver trees are the same, as are the Slicer trees, these are not NEW trees to a player who has one of them already.

Im sure GM's around the world will be doing whatever they want at the table and allowing Players to take both trees, but it is not in the spirit of the intention of the RaW.

also related to this is an unranked talent (example: Natural Programer, Skilled Slicer, All-Terain Driver, Full Throttle) can only be taken once, if a player later has a new Spec that includes a talent already acquired these are treated as acquired and may essentially be skipped in the new tree. this is spelled out on p140 AoR and p128 EotE. there are examples given in both books on those pages for this. This can actually have a major impact on deciding which new specialisation a PC should take, making access to lower parts of 2 trees with matching talents much easier.

Age of Rebellion page 343 deals with "multiple copies" of specializations.

Thank you, couldn't remember where i had seen it!

Yeah, you're not going to find this information in Edge of the Empire, since it came out first and didn't have to be compatible with anything. Specializations aren't repeated within game lines, it would seem. But I would say it's common sense for a GM to deny it, as the specializations are identical each time.

Thanks guys for helping me clear this up.
