New player looking for some advice on scum list

By bubalo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I am waiting for my starter pack and to get into the game with my buddy. So i was doing a bit of research what i like the look of and what would i like to purchase in the future when we get the hold of the basics. So after toying with the builder for a while i came up with this:

Kavil (y wing)

PTL, EU, unhinged astromech, blaster turret 36

Xizor (star viper)

VI, Virago, autothrusters, advanced sensors, internal dampeners 39

2x Binayre pirate (Z-95 headhunter) 2x12

total 99

i have to say i have no practical experience with the game, only what i gathered from the rules and the forums. Also i believe i wouldn't enjoy flying swarms or a lot of large ships. mainly im interested in aces type of lists, or a mix like the above.

So my question is, is this viable? Im looking for an well rounded list that can take on as many different types as possible.

Are you getting the Scum & Villany: Most Wanted pack?

Also, can you list me the ships that WILL be available to you when you get them in?? I have some great ideas for a good Scum build, but Id need to know what your working with first :)

Looks like a solid build. I like Kavil, but don't have much experience with Xizor yet.

I haven't ordered anything but the main box. I like to run my initial purchases by ppl with more experience, so I'm not stuck with sth i can't use.

That said i did plan to get most wanted pack along with additional ship or two.

If you're running Xizor with VI I'd go with Fire Control over Advanced Sensors. The advantage of PS9 with boost and barrel roll options is really good, but you can be left without dice modification, which is critical for a ship this expensive. Don't be fooled into thinking about PtL on him, though, as he's not got the green on his dial to clear the stress and still be in a useful position.

I like your Kavil build a lot. I run him with predator instead of PtL and no EU. I'm in two minds as to which is the better build. Despite appearances, he's a tricky pilot to fly well. Good players can easily make sure they're in his front arc or position themselves to block him, at which point he loses his main threat. I think Unhinged astromech is a requirement on his build (as opposed to the more frequently seen R4 Agromech) as it gives you the option put yourself in some really unusual positions (and takes 2 reds of the dial). The advantage my build has is that it allows me to use any manoeuvre on the dial (except the K-turn) and still be able to shoot with a soft target lock on the attack dice. Your build gives you the added advantage of being able to boost out of arcs to reduce the attacks coming in, or to be able to have a full target lock. On paper yours is obviously better, but I worry that the stress may make you predictable and therefore easy to block, and that's where it can all go wrong for him. It's academic in my list as I don't have the points spare for an EU, but I would like to hear how you find him with this build when you fly him.

Cheerio,

Ben

Polab Godalhi: HWK-290 (20+10)
Opportunist (4)
Outlaw Tech (2)
Blaster Turret (4)

Kavil: Y-Wing (24+6)
R4 Aggromech (2)
Blaster Turret (4)

Kath Scarlet: Firespray-31 (38+2)

Tactical Jammer (1)

Calculation (1)

This one is real nasty. Doesn't have the maneuverability... but you don't need it. Kavil here is going to be your heaviest hitter. Use Kath when you can to block and run defense with tactical jammer. Polab is awsome here, but also the hardest ship to get into position with, keep an eye out for him. I call it "Turn and Burn". Its a quick game if you do it right. ;)

P.S. Dude, get all the ships man. I have all the ones that are out... and I've used them all. Good for variety and especially when you're trying to throw off your opponent with less used ships. Adios!
