Are you a...

By Lord Ashram, in Star Wars: Armada

I think this pretty much sums up my purchasing tendencies when it comes to X-Wing and Armada.

So, having read a lot of posts here, and in other wargaming circles, I wanted to ask...

As you an unlimited collector? Are you the type whose collection grows and grows and grows, often gleefully out of control?

Or are you a limited collector? Do you have a set plan and generally stick to it?

Which type of collector are you?

I would buy Star Wars toiler paper and never use it.

Wipe, you will.

I'm unlimited I suppose. Unfortunately my wallet is not. :(

I like to get at least one of everything, then get extras of things I like. That usually tends to keep me from going over the top.

If I could I'd just bathe in plastic and cardboard.

I am a pretty cautious buyer. For me to buy in the game has to appeal to my style and there has to be opponents. I don't collect. I no longer paint, much. (Ok I still paint). Needless to say, I am bat she!t crazy over Armada.

I buy along certain lines:

-Enough for my playgroup (3 of us)

-At least one of everything*

-Stay true to spirit of the franchise, so for example I'm reluctant to get the Assault Frigate and GSD since they feel 'off' -- but I'm pretty sure I'll still get them. If I didn't, I'd get them for their shareable cards but then sell of the ship and specific cards

-Buy in proportion to the units availability in-universe so that we're forced to play in a way that reflects not only the faction but the faction's resources.

I don't buy to collect so I've little interest in X-wing's Scum faction and haven't had a problem resisting it.

But I do buy a lot up front in preorders since I have no local store and the discount really adds up. Buying them later without the discount amounts to a big chunk of change. So even though I'm doing it to save I oddly feel like I drop a lot of cash in a 'gimmie gimme' way that isn't quite reflective of me.

Must HAVE All THE THINGS!!!!!

More Please. Miniatures, Board Games, LCG, Novels, Apps!

ALL OF IT NOW!

I suppose you'd classify me as unlimited. I do tend to have a vision in mind of what I want and for some games that vision often is much more than a reasonable, field-able force would look like. Armada is one of those I'm thinking of in terms of Star Destroyer Battle Groups. For vessels that fall into the new/EU category I'm imagining what the TO&E numbers would look like.

I can imagine quite a bit.

Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Hmmm... I think I'd fall into the somewhat limited category.

I already have a plan for the second wave, but I stay flexible. I planned and set up my first wave preorder well in advance, but have since adjusted the fighter packs and assault frigate upwards as I learned more about the feel of the game through some two-core 300 point matches.

So while my wave two plans are set right now, after we play with wave one for a while and get some ISD or Mon Cal spoiler articles, I'll be adjusting again. I'm also among those shooting for massive 600+ point battles, but I'm not sure I'll have any need for more than two of each of the big ones on a 4x6 surface.

I'm a "Buy it if I can play with it" kinda guy. I have zero Star Wars merchandise in boxes, shrink-wrap, plastic, ect Although I have bought things not intended to be played with...and played with them, lol. I collect games to play. I'm not a collector.

I tend to try to get at least one of every expansion, even if purely to have a nice shelf of Star Wars ships, which I can use for more than just shelf purposes too.

I'm an "initial investment + future buys" player. At least with current waves, I'll set a purchase goal, but leave myself open for additional purchases.

^^ this is me

This is not your personal erotica site!

Please forgive me. My sense of humor used to have standards, then it took an arrow to the knee.

I've cut back on buying miniatures or thinking about buying more miniatures basically to just when I'm awake so make what you will out of that.

Actually I didn't over order for Armada wave 1 with the squadrons being the only packs that I bought 2 of. I will probably buy multiples of the ships from the LGS. Doing pretty good at not going overboard despite buying 2 cores and only playing 1 300 point game so far.

When it comes to buying miniatures my usual benchmark is "worthy of Mordor".

Maybe I should switch hobbies before my wallet kills me in self defense.

I try to be limited but well....yeah.....

I justify my purchases (when my wife inquires) by saying that I'm not as bad as most of you all. :P

I also buy on pre-order from the FLGS (support the local, but still get 15% off MSRP) in order to keep my financial exposure within certain limits. Also, I try not to buy stuff for a single card. I like to fly what I buy, but that's kind of gone out the window with Scum and Rebels (for X-Wing) as I'm an Empire-only type of fellow.
