Wave 7 and the meta

By DariusAPB, in X-Wing

As it says on the tin.

What ships/builds do you expect to shine? Which will get hurt?

Will you be running Fat punishers/bombers/K-wings or very slim-naked versions of those craft.

Discuss.

I know I'll be running a lot of Bombers and bombs, with a punisher thrown in here and there. Not sure if everyone else loves the Tie Bomber as much as me though.

I own 6...

NeraDeadeye with twin APTs is a likely one, seen that on these forums and also added a proxy to my lists.

Rhymer looks good as well as Jonus. I do think that while the introduced Eggbox and K-wing are good we'll more be seeing bombers like the Y-wing and T/B as individual members of a squadron adding heavy support weapons or mines.

It will be vast with many builds and more then likely the whole stupid rock-paper-scissors argument will finally die. People will finally see that all the ships work once you find the flight style you like. I know this all to be a dream, but this next wave should help push it in the right direction, much like wave 6.

Yeah it's true, wave 6 really did shake the snowglobe.

Far to early to tell, especially with all those new shinies we don't have info on.

Miranda and her shield shenanigans will be a tough nut to crack, however. Rhymer with 4x Cluster Missiles will be a threat to watch as well.

Rhymer is still excessively expensive. I'm really not sure he's 4 points more dangerous than Jonus doing the same thing. It'll be the Advanced Homing Missiles where he'll shine, if he'll ever shine.

Range 3 Cluster Missiles hurt.

The addition of more action-deployed bombs that deal automatic effects when they overlap is going to create problems for ships like arc-dodgers like Soontir Fel and IG88. I don't even know what the Conner Net does, but I'm pretty sure those ships aren't going to like it.

The Hound's Tooth's massive arc will also cause problems for those ships.

yeah it's a bit early

best I can speculate:

1.) The K-wing won't be a fat turret (thank all the gods across all the pantheons) but will instead be a bomber

2.) the fighter is setting itself up for failure with those worse than X-wing stats and just as bad action bar

3.) extra munis doesn't seem to do enough to fix ordinance by itself, certainly not at the 2 point asking price (but it will make Rhymer hilarious)

One comment.

K-wing group with ion turrets.

ionize their targets (worse if they are close together). ADVSLAMBOMB.

There's an ion bomb/mine included in the The expansion spoiler pics ;)

Bossk + Mangler Cannon is an obvious synergy that I bet will be competitive

Vader versus bombs versus warthogs at World's.

the question is "how competitive"

a 4 point HLC sounds great, but it's not quite an HLC (ability only triggers on an "attack that hits," so you don't have four dice to bowl through high agility with). I don't question that it's great value, but by itself I don't see it being amazing (have to explore abuses of the EPT, illicit, and triple crew slots ;))

My question is thus:

Would bossk make a kitten into a taco?

If so he's an autoinclude.

Half of the wave is still unspoiled, we still have no idea what the new bombs/missiles do, what over half the pilots do/cost and what the new Twin Engine TIE mod, Ion Pr[?] Large-Ship mod and Twin Laser Turret do.

Imagine how horrible people's predictions of what the Wave 4 metagame would look like just based off the Wave 4 announcement article, where they hadn't revealed the text of Advanced Cloaking Device or the cloak action yet. It would be pretty hard to guess that the meta would be dominated by TIE Phantoms and Falcons based just on that article.

That's fair, but what is also fair is that the possibilities are exciting to discuss.

Just how much will ordnance enter the game.

I just get a feeling there is a lot of Falcon/Decimator hate.

I think the meta will push further into a 2-ship build. Scum builds will most likely feature 1 large ship (at a minimum) with Bossk and IG leading the way. Bombs/Ordnance may make a showing, but probably just a flash in the pan. The main thing I got out of the Wave 7 preview is that all those ships will get very expensive once they're fully kitted out.

I don't know about a straight push to 2 ship builds, but from what little we know I am the most excited for Bossk's ship. It could well lead to more 2 ship builds, but on the other hand Bossk himself costs as much as a naked MM and one less than a naked aggressor (implying that the lower PS pilots are cheaper). Maybe we'll get 3 ship builds  Who knows? This might be Scum's bounty hunter.

Also, the SoT + Outlaw tech combo lends itself very well to mini-swarms (since the big guy will no longer care about bumping its allies and losing actions). Plus, the potential for multiple tacticians will drag elite ships down to a level were less skilled generics can swarm over them like ants.

I just get a feeling there is a lot of Falcon/Decimator hate.

sorry, that's my bad

just open a window and let it waft out a bit

I think we can safely work under the assumption that there is no ACD-level shenanigans in wave 7 or the Raider. It's pretty clear they do quite a bit more playtesting now.

Wave VII will be a huge meta shift, and the number of obviously- or apparently-viable lists and strategies will greatly increase.

I am looking forward to everything we can see so far, but I think a loaded Miranda in a K-Wing will be my new jam. Between SLAM, her pilot ability, and her upgrade bar, I'm really looking forward to practicing with a potent high-PS bomber. I'm going to do my best to keep her under 40 points, but I can't promise myself anything yet!

I am very curious what the generic PS2 Hound's tooth will cost. The idea of triple tactician's with a 180o arc is very intriguing.

I can't see mangler on Bossk. Restricts you to the smaller arc and not worth the points on a 3 dice ship in my opinion.

I am a bit concerned about what massed K's or Pyoonishers will do to Huge ships in epic.

Edit: C-3PO on K-wings?

I'm looking forward to autothruster interceptors dancing around the sides of thewe bombers. Never getting ordinance off because they cant get in arc, and never dropping mines because they can never get far enough ahead.

It will be a good time for Phantoms, Interceptors and Defenders.
