I have been playing X-wing since December 2013, started with wave 3, since we have had epic play, waves 4,5,6, and scum. I am completely amazed at how every ship has its place and can function. There are fads, trends, new metas, excitement about what could happen, but all of this does not take away from love of everyship created. My eyes were openned to this simple fact when I watched 2 Hwks and 2 y-wings rip through a store Torny with ease and perfection, (we had phantoms but it did not matter) honestly I did not like the Hwk but see it as a ship with a ton to offer.
I say all of this as more and more people join x-wing and the forum tends to go with new, exciting, broken or spectating, remember that every ships (including the Advance) has its place in x-wing.
I own at least three of every small and two of every large, each lives and dies on dice and movement. I have seen a fully decked out Boba Fett be lost to a board Edge, I have seen tie swarm still wreck people, I watch my last torny come down to a guy running 4 Bwings and 1z95 winning everything. (He beat out 4 Vt-49s, a phatom Intercepter, a guy running ahuttles)
I say all of this because this game we love can be more then just meta and Winning tornys, it can be something to be excited about and played with friends and family. Each ship has a place in that, each ship makes this game special.
Last thought I was at torney in March there were some like 22 people playing. A grandma brought in her two grandkids they both were about 9 or 10. They were amazed at the ships and the game. My opponent and myself wasted 20 minutes of around explaining and showing the game, the ships, movement, temptes, everything, if there as one starter left in the store they would have walked out with it. In that moment I did not care if I lost my entry fee time, a family got to see a game they liked and I remembered how cool this game really is. It took me back to openning my first core set on my birthday and flying a tie fighter.
