First Tournament this weekend. Help with List

By smccaughan, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I know there are a bunch of new player threads but none of them have my fleet. I am going to try my hand at a tournement this weekend and going in I know I am going to get waxed but I am going to learn. I am asking for some help with what to fly this weekend though.

Here is what I have available.

2 Core sets

2 Tie sets

2 Tie/in Sets

1 Imp Aces set

1 Tie/x01 Advanced set

1 Tie Phantom

1 Firespray 31 set

2 B-wing Sets

1 Rebel Aces Set

1 X-Wing Set

1 YT 1300 Set

I have played with a Soontir/Tur/Royal Guard build and a Biggs and 2 B's build but am looking for some advice on something that would work in a tourney setting.

I was thinkng

Luke with R2-D2/ ST/ SU

2 Blues with FCS/ IC/ HU

or

Chewbacca with DTF/ MF title/ EU

Dagger Squadron with IC/ HU

Green Squadron with CR/ VI/ SU

or

Soontir with Royal Guard Title/ PTL/ TC/ SU

Royal Guard with RG title/ VI/ TC/ HU

Howlrunner with ST

Backstabber

or

Soontir with RG title/ PTL/ TC/ SU

Royal Guard with RG title/VI / TC/ HU

Bounty Hunter with HU

I am willing to take any advice on how to improve these or even some I have not thought about.

thank you

I took a list very similar to this to my first tournament. My version was:

Fel w/ PtL, title, TC & Hull

Royal Guard w/ PtL & Hull

Bounty Hunter w/ Recon Spec.

I strongly recommend Recon Spec over hull upgrade on a bounty hunter. Helps much more. Also, if an interceptor has an EPT, give it Push the Limit. There are a few exceptions, but they are very far and few between (Turr being the main one). I won't say its a tourney-winning list, especially since it would do better with Autothrusters, but since you don't have a Star Viper, you can make do and still account pretty well for yourself.

On the rebel side, its too bad you didn't have a YT-2400 and a second heavy laser cannon. Because then you could run this:

Luke w/ Lone Wolf, R2-D2 and either engine or shield upgrade

2 Blues w/ FCS + HLC

Its a pretty solid list. I prefer engine upgrade because it allows Luke to flank more effectively (getting in range to shoot at same time as B's) and to kite when he's actually getting shot at (so you can regen shields and get back into the fight faster).

I honestly can't say I am a fan of any of your other lists----I think they have too many weaknesses to be good in a tournament setting.

Hmm, given what you have, you could try this:

Luke w/ PtL, R2-D2, engine upgrade

Blue w/ FCS & HLC

Blue w/ FCS, E2 mod + Gunner

You could also drop push the limit on Luke for something else (veteran instincts, marksmanship, swarm tactics?) and you could always change that engine into a shield upgrade if you prefer.

In any case, good luck!

Blade

Thanks for the advice. I had not even thought about Recon Specialist with Bounty Hunter. I may have to test this out.

Like I said I fully expect to get destroyed but I want to learn and I figure I am not going to learn playing my Son or my Buddy all the time I have to face some different things.

I think I like the Luke and 2 Blues you put there as well. I will give both some thought.

Thank you again.

Yeah the Star Vipers are on my next list of ships to get.

Xwings are tought to be competitive with in a tournament. THey are usually expensive and generally easy to kill with focused fire on them (even luke). so when you lose the xwing you are already playing catchup with points.

if you run a firespray I highly encourage you to get an EU. it helps protect your blindspots and your big base that serves as an easy target

I forgot to mention I have the TIE advanced. What about the 3 amigo's as a build

The B-Wings stay in a loose formation, taking a Focus action each turn, and re-rolling any blanks with the Fire-Control System Target Lock. Jake flanks and Boosts/Barrel Rolls/Focuses to his little heart's desire.

Typical Phantom Mini-swarm. Having a Pilot Skill 3 compared to a typical swarm's Pilot Skill 1 will allow you to focus fire a few of them down before they have a chance to retaliate.

I like the Phantom Swarm but am nervous since the Decloak Nerf. I may still try it out though.

Chewie with title, engine and gunner
