No but seriously guys, the XG-1 is a heavier, more ponderous Imperial vessel equipped with Ion Cannons, laser cannons, and ordnance. Were it in XWMG, it'd like have 3 firepower. It's a powerful, capable fighter. But it is not a Missile Boat.

The Missile Boat would have about 1, and even then it'd be fairly useless. It was designed to kill TIE Defenders- the best TIE Fighter in the Imperial Navy. That should give you a good idea of what it can do. However, it is not an Assault Gunboat.

Assault Gunboat needs more white paint.

Missile Boat needs more of the low poly "actually looks like a Lambda than a mini Royal Naboo starship" look.

Hey, no disagreement here. I'm just saying what the differences are and putting up pictures so literally everyone can understand.

Missile Boat

The XG-1 was introduced in the original X-Wing game as the Imperial's FIRST hyperdrive capable, shielded starfighter, and although slow in speed it presented a decent challenge for X-Wings and Y-Wings, and was a real threat to objectives.

The Missile Boat was introduced in TIE Fighter, featured the SLAM drive and an insane ordnance capacity. Originally it could solo pretty much anything up to and including capital ships.

Amusing trivia from the wiki - the Missile Boat was left out of the X-Wing vs TIE Fighter game, but was referenced in the game files as:

"This is the King Hell God Emperor Starfighter of Death and you can't fly it yet!"

Disagree with this. The XG-1 had two (2) laser cannons, not four like the TIE Interceptor or X-Wing. It'd be more likely to have 2 firepower as standard.

The Ion Cannons are tricky, as it came with two as standard but giving it access to a cannon slot would also give it access to the Heavy Laser Cannon upgrade, which makes little to no sense.

A mechanic similar to the BTL-A4, where it could fire it's primary and follow up with an Ion cannon or missile attack might be interesting, though.

And that's why we won't see a single one in this game. They are not necessary. Any other starfighter can take care of that

By that logic we didn't need anything past wave one because those fighters can take care of all other fighters.

I am not in love with either of them.

I love that XG1. One of my favorites to fly from TIE Fighter.

He was making a joke about the super effectiveness of the TIE defender relative to how good it was in the Legends canon.

Go find your Lambda and count its guns. Then go find your Outrider and compare the size of its guns to the TIE fighter.

And then, and only then, go count the guns on the Assault Gunboat again.

I have correlation graphs and everything. The HWK really screws with it, but it's not great even if you drop that ship.

Attack values represent effective firepower, the damage a ship can reasonably deal per round. Effective firepower isn't necessarily equal to firepower (the Falcon, Decimator and Firespray are bristling with guns but can't bring them all to bear, the phantom has cloaking on its side so it always has the drop on its target). Firepower is in turn not equal to the number of gun barrels because those guns vary in power. Look at the X-wing's guns and tell me they're equivalent to those on the TIE. Look at the Outrider's guns and tell me they're worse than the Decimator's.

Correlation does not equal causality, and even if it did the correlation between a ship's attack value and the number of gun barrels is terrible. It actually goes negative if you put the HWK in.

Whatever the rhetoric, I stand by the comment. The XG-1's primary weapon value should be two (2) . It cannot (and should not) be able match the damage output of the more heavily armed B-Wing, TIE Interceptor, TIE Defender, Lambda-Class Shuttle, X-Wing etc with it's primary weapons when it relies on secondary weapon systems to fulfil it's role.
