Phantom with Targeting Computer

By Mykul79, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Has anyone tried this?

PTL for an evade or Elusiveness or Lone Wolf

Sensor Jammer or Fire-Control System

Weapons Engineer or Recon Specialist or Intelligence Agent

Not having ACD or SPA on a phantom would be a bit unnerving, but a wingman with Fleet Officer, or Draw Their Fire might help.

Yup.

I've had great success with this list.

With the spare ten points Voloch, what do you spend that on? Nice list, but I don't like those Phantoms without ACD...

Why use Targeting Computer? It doesn't make any sense when you have access to FCS. SPA & ACD are just plain better.

Ok, it was my understanding that I would need Targeting Computer, to use FCS or Weapons Engineer.

Thanks all, M

It's an equal 100pts this list is.

Never used ACD on anything else than Whisper or Echo. The SPA is great for those low cost ships. The Evade token from cloaking/decloaking is more valuable in how I play these. If more than one ship can shoot at your Phantom, you're flying them wrong :)

Those two Phantoms single handedly took down 3 Firesprays, after Vessery failed miserably - with 12 dice + re-rolls for Target Lock (that's 24 dice) and only managed to get 3 hits, rest were blanks (that's dice for you :/ ) and my opponent evaded two of them - and they only lost 1 shield each.

And they were flown with the new De-cloak rules. I find these awesome as you can use the Phantoms to block/intercept your opponent so he loses his action.

I've only tried the Shadow Phantom once, where I dropped the WE. That was a success too, but that could have been a 1-timer. Can't really tell from only 1 game.

I don't think the weapons engineer is necessary, personally. Recon Specs would help them more because you don't actually NEED 4 target locks per turn...

It may not be necessary but I can really see why it would be useful here. For one thing it lets the Phantom lock up a target other than the one is just shot at under the assumption that the first target may not be there to shoot at next turn. The other big thing is that it can mean more TLed opponents which then gives Vessery a lot more options when he gets around to attacking.

I played a list like this tonight and it was great fun. I used hlc on vessery though since without a bit of extra oomph it felt weird even having him in the list

Well sure, I get that. But I don't like spending 3 points on an upgrade that may have little or no value depending on what opponents I'm facing. For example, its a waste vs. 2 or even 3 ship enemy builds, and even against higher number of ships, you still want to focus your fire and destroy them one at a time, so you won't be making use of all those extra target locks very often. Sure it will help on occasion, but I can't see it getting used every match. I don't mind spending 1 or maybe 2 points on an upgrade that has situational use, but a total of 6 points? I just feel there are better options. YMMV though.

If you want to make the most of Vessery then having another ship with a TL on the guy is pretty essential. Using a couple ships without native TL abilities makes that second 'free' TL when they do get to TL all that much more important.

While I said I can see why it would be useful to have Weapon Engineers on two Sigmas I can agree that it is NOT something I would prefer to do. I guess I just don't like Vessery all that much and would use those points to upgrade to Rexler w/ Predator and probably spend the 2 remaining points on Intelligence Agents for the Sigmas to aid in decloaking and action decisions.
