Thoughts on Glitterstim?

I had been thinking this card might be good in co junction with Countermeasures, but...

Man, I do not get Countermeasures. It's the same price as Stealth Device, but gets discarded after 1 round of use.

Countermeasures effing sucks.

If it worked all the time, passively that is.

Other wise... MEH!

Drugs are bad, m'kay?

Comparing it to RecSpec isn't really accurate, neither is thinking of it as double Focus.

It's not double Focus....its (As many attacks as you make+as many times as you get attacked) Focus. Used at the right time this is FAR more powerful than 2 Focus.

It also works against enemy Gunner attacks, isn't affected by token removal (Wes, Palob) or anything else, boost your own gunner attacks, boosts anything with multi attacks (BTL-A4's, Cluster missiles, maybe new double laser turret).

It is very, very powerful. I can see this being my go-to for quite a lot of ships (certain things still want Inertial Dampers though IMO).

I we're gonna get paid, then I got high, hey hey, I could have been the best pilot,v then I got high, Sith knows that I didn't die, hey hey, because I got high, because I got high because I got higghhhhhh dadadadada.... XD

Aside from anti drug measures, the stim is incredible card.

my thoughts on glitterstim is that I can't read that text on this card

"At the start of the Combat phase, you may discard this card and receive 1 stress token. If you do, until the end of the round, when attacking or defending, you may change all of your eye results to boom or swoosh results."

Cheers mate.

Glitterstim looks really neat. I could see a couple of strong attackers taking a TL and shooting up stims in an opening volley. Single use for 2 points makes it a little hard to love, though.

In the hands of a good player this card has the potential to be borderline op on certain ships (IG-88, Boba as mentioned here). Dont underestimate the power of this lasting for a whole turn (against all incoming attacks/against gunner). IGs in particular could do some brutal jousting with this.

Guri is a little less synergistic, as her ability is essentially useless that round unless you give her something else to do with the Focus token (and no, Deadeye & Torpedo is not an acceptable something else).

Deadeye and Advanced Proton Torpedo on the other hand...

Remember that none of this even costs an action, so she can still Boost, Barrel Roll, or S-Loop to her (artificial) heart's content.

The idea is to provide defense to a ship with AGI to low to make use of Stealth Device. Most AGI 1 or 2 ships will get 1 shot, maybe 2 out of Stealth Device. Countermeasures lasts the whole turn, so you get an extra green die for each attack that you get. Best case scenario is a while pile of 8 TIE Fighters jumps you, you pop countermeasures, and get 8 extra green dice that turn. That could be good for 3 HP or so on an AGI 1 ship. If Ordnance were any good, you'd pop it when some torp carrier had you dead-to-rights, changing a Torp vs AGI shot to a primary vs AGI+1 shot (on top of the effect against anyone else that was shooting at you). That's also probably worth 2-3 points of damage.

It ends up not being nearly as good as Engine Upgrade for only 1 point less. It probably needed to be 2 or 1 points to be seriously considered.

Honestly, though, combined with Glitterstim it would make even a vulnerable AGI 1 ship pretty tough for a turn. Solid on a ship you just wanted to ram down someone's throat. I don't think there are a lot of scenarios where so much firepower would be pointed at a ship that it was worth taking vs. Engine Upgrade, though.

Glitterstim is a powerful 1-round response to a Howlrunner swarm on a ship with more than 1 evade dice.

Normal counter-swarm tactics are, in a nutshell, "don't joust".

But if you have glitterstim, you can joust for one turn, because you'll have a defensive focus-equivalent for every shot that turn. All those 2-dice attacks hurt so much if you have focus results count as evades every time.

Guri is a little less synergistic, as her ability is essentially useless that round unless you give her something else to do with the Focus token (and no, Deadeye & Torpedo is not an acceptable something else).

Deadeye and Advanced Proton Torpedo on the other hand...

is not worth the single shot when you could have a far more consistent predator for half the points* :P

Soontir and Rexlar sure could use this card! Guri maybe?

If only. Rexler would give his firstborn for this card.

My Guri build just switched hotshot for this. The amount of times I've used her for bait and had the decision of BRing to R3 or focusing is quite high. Couple that with her normal SJ and LW, the one area she suffers at will be covered till she closes the distance.
