Painting Tie Fighters, looking for the best blue/grey choices?

By darkfortunex, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey everyone, first time posting.

So I've been combing over forum threads and a few google search results. So far however I haven't found exactly what I've been looking for. I've seen that many don't care for the blue grey color and decide to use the more white grey. I think that coloration looks great. However I was hoping to go for the darker blue-grey look used in Episode V: Empire Strikes Back and VI: Return of the Jedi.

I think I've found a few colors that might fit but I was wondering what others might have used to achieve that look. I tried to get an idea off of the X-Wing miniatures but I'm not sure I can find a good equivalent.

The closest colors I was able to find were GW Citadel color: Russ Grey, and Army Painter Warpaints: Uniform Grey. Still not sure they will honestly do what I'm looking for, so I was curious what other colors people might have used that were a good match.

Anyway, thank you for your time an any help you can give!

Thanks!

For my TIEs (a few threads down) I used Testors Flanker Blue for the body, regular black for the panels, and Gunship Gray for the cockpit. I compared the blue to the blue used on X-Wing Miniatures, and it's a pretty close match.

I haven't tried it myself yet, but I saw pics of someone using Vallejo French Mirage Blue for the TIE blue-grey and I thought it looked pretty spot on.
