And back to it. Although Battlefront may contain a story .. Can a game be considered canon? Now, I understand that a game like Mass Effect can be as it is driven by a plot. But Battlefront?? It's just two armies battling it out. The campaign in previous games is little more than a trainer for the Multiplayer.
For video games that have a story, the property owners can declare that a particular iteration of that story is canon.
For something like battlefront, it would be more like "the battle depicted in the video game canonically happened, and this side won, but the specific details that were under player control aren't."
It's Tattooine. And it does have a campaign.
Theres also a Battlefront novel coming.

Someone at EA/DICE is lying. An artical on ign has a rep from EA/DICE saying that the game can't be canon because their is no story. Some of the scenery is canon and the equipment in it are authentic, making that canon.
Now, the eagle eyes at Jedi Bibliothek have spotted a handy timeline in the Amazon preview for the upcoming paperback edition of Star Wars: A New Dawn.

I red it, its out of date and doesn't reflect statements. Made by SW writer made after the novel was created. The jist of it is, legends is 2ndary canon and 2ndary canon doesn't equal non-canon.

Legends is no different really than the EU was. It wasn't really ever canon, unless George decided to use part of it in one of his stories, such as a movie or TV show.
Parts of Legends may become canon, but it is not canon itself, because no one has to pay any attention to what happened in it, unless they chose to use part of it in a canon story. That doesn't make the Legends part canon, it just means something that was part of Legends is now also part of Canon.

Most recently after Disney bought SW the writters for multiple SW projects have said ether its all still there, eu, its still canon untill contradicted and even then it is only the fine details that are non-canon, OR the writter will fix any contradictions new material causes in reguards too old material.
Old EU is secondary canon class A, canon till contradicted andd oesnt require refrences from primary canon too be canon althoulgh that will change it to primary canon.
The only things LFL/Disney made non-canon too the SW primary universe, but not the SW multiverse, was the SWoR add-ons. They confirmed that days ago.

You realise that the game makers don't necessarily have to write the story, right? The game likely doesn't have a story.
BKL you are going to hate it this fall. Your precious EU, Secondary canon, legends, ramblings, whatever the hell you want to call it, are all going to be contradicted... sorry.

I'm hoping for the Emperor to have stayed dead for much the same reason. If he stayed dead, then that will wipe out a huge chunk of the EU. When 'history' is based on something that didn't actually happen, we call it fiction.
If the Emperor never comes back, then that means all the stories that involved him are effectively non-canon, because the whole premise for them falls apart.
From what little we do know, it seems likely that I'll get my wish.
I'm hoping for the Emperor to have stayed dead for much the same reason.

Which makes a ton of the EU stuff non-canon.
Which doesn't mean we won't see some of those characters in the new canon. For example the whole Thrawn Trilogy will most likely be rendered non-canon with Aftermath. But that doesn't mean Mara Jade or Thrawn can't still show up in the new canon.
