Extra Munitions: Not the Only New Thing

By ArdusKaine, in X-Wing

Plasma torpedo:

Cancel all damage and assign the ship a face up damage card.

How is Extra Munitions not the Bee's knees. You now can have two bomb Y-wings. Or have B-wings with Two Proton torpedoes for 30 points. 36 points gets you a b-wing that can fire outside its firing arc.

Remind me again how a B-Wing fires outside it's arc?

I think if you want Luke to shoot down a TIE fighter or firespray with a proton torpedo then you are misunderstanding how that ordnance functions within the Star Wars lore. People are expecting all ordnance slots to be viable in 100-pt dogfights. They really shouldn't be...

I'm okay with that. I'd prefer not to see mines, missiles and torpedoes everywhere in a 100 point dog fight. Especially mines. In Epic, I hope they are awesome and I hope Epic is too once the Raider comes out. Where is the Raider?

Nera's pilot ability.

Your use of the term "missile platform" to describe the Z-95 and TIE Defender is extremely loose and leaves much to be desired.

FFG didn't promise love for every ship that can carry ordnance (because that 90% of the ships in the game), they promised love for the TIE Bomber.

I feel like I should just make a thread.

Thanks

Apologies -- just simply meaning that they can carry missiles. Not that they are specifically designed to do so. But I don't really understand what your post is getting at...?

Missiles are just as bad, and torpedoes aren't exactly Death To The Raider.

The problem with ordnance is a proton torpedo or a concussion missile isn't four points better than the primary attack.

It's FFG's term. For the Z-95. From the Wave 4 previews.

Indeed. The Z-95 is the rebel missile platform. Missiles suck, so it is not used as such...

In Epic, I hope they are awesome

Nope. A TIE swarm is better against a Tantive than a bomber is.

It may be worth pointing out that the reference cards provided with the TIE Punisher and K-wing are different. I believe there's a new Bomb reference card and another new card beginning "This card explains..." which is not the Using Bombs reference card (it's already provided).

Than whoever plays as the Tantive isn't doing it right. The reinforce action should render 2 dice attacks virtually meaningless.

If only Torpedo's (not missiles) ignored reinforce or had bonus damage against large/huge...

You'd think, but I find not really. Once TIE's get close they whittle a huge down really quickly, also if the imp is able to hit both sides at once... Especially at range 1.

I wonder if any of the new torps or missiles in wave 7 or in the future will act in the opposite way that ions/stress attacks do in that it can effectively deal MORE damage then what is rolled? Here’s just a briefly thought out idea.

attack power 5 range 1-2

"Attack (target lock): Spend your target lock and discard this card to use this attack. If this attack hits, cancel all dice results. The defender suffers 3 damage. You may not use focus to modify your roll."

That could be pretty sweet, and I don't think too powerful? Not sure what would be best for roll and damage, especially if the no focus use rule stuck. 4 may be better for the roll, or maybe I’m overpowering it quite a bit and a 3 roll, 2 damage would be best, and just scrap the no focus rule. Even if it did turn out to be pretty powerful, they can always price it accordingly.

And even if Extra Munitions hasn’t fully fixed the issue, I think FFG will continue to work on ordinance and continue to do their best to make it viable in more popular competitive formats. And as the OP stated, we haven’t even seen all the new cards from the wave yet. Maybe there is another game changer sitting in the text of those cards?

You would think, but I have seen ordnance do more damage than a swarm of Tie Fighters. Part of it is once they get close, the Tantive starts to look for ramming possibilities.

Ordnance i've seen fail completely and roflstomp. Same goes to the TIE horde vs huge, usually though a horde flown right can roflstomp a huge.

Trick against huge is make it a difficult choice which side to reinforce.

Prepare for the age of dual Ion torps and assault missiles.

12 points (they are both 5 right?) and ALL the blast damage!

Muahahaha! Probably just load up a K-wing and have it hang back while A's and Z-95's do the dirty work of clumping them all up.

Almost. Ion torps are single target damage with aoe ion.

This is one of the bigger problems with ordnance, I think. If I equip a Proton Torpedo, I want to get value from it. Getting value from it should not depend on my opponent bringing the right list.

Ummm, yes it should. Otherwise you can't have ordnance designed for specific targets. Designing for specific targets is the whole point of having different ordnance.

Emon says "Hello!"

Adv homing should require a target lock but allow you to fire it outside of arc.

It's a freakin advanced homing missle!!!!

I think some here don't get the point.

Even if the new Missiles, Torps and Bombs are insanely good and everybody would suddenly take them, the old ones are not fixed. I mean we don't need 10 more types of ordnance (although it's always nice to have new stuff of course), just make the ones we have work!

That was actually what people would ask from FFG, and what they gave us instead was something that makes Bombs pretty good, and lets you make point economy on ships with multiple slots.

This fix is not one, not for any 1 slot ship. Nobody will take ordnance over cannons when he has the choice, nobody will ever play a missile Heavy Scyk...

I hope the real fix will yet come. Errata or FAQ something if you need to, but this can't be it!

Was under the impression that to get the required Trop slot you need Slave 1 title, to get three bomb slots it's the other......
