Little dissapointing choice for Empire in wave 7?

By earlyfang, in X-Wing

I feel a little disappointed by the imperial model chosen for the 7th wave. And moreover really neither the rebel model chosen. But I will not criticize here the K-Wing, despite his horrible design. If you want to blame about it, you can do here:
The Punisher TIE, really named TIE Interdictor, is a model designed for the strategy game "Galactic Battlegrounds" so it's design does not have a highly developed logical, and is really unoriginal. It's just a simplistic rehash of the TIE Bomber.
FFG could have launched the most acclaimed and popular model, XG-1 Assault Gunboat, instead of a marginal model, only seen in a videogame.
Tecnically the TIE Punisher look like an improved TIE Bomber, so i willl bought a pair, as much, specially for the ordnance fix cards.
I hope to see the Gunboat in next waves, and the expected TIE Avenger.

I too think the Punisher looks a bit silly, and would have loved the Gunboat.

But, maybe they needed a TIE variant so they could include the Twin Ion Engine upgrade card that only applies to TIE models?

Disagree - I think that the Punisher is uber sexy. Native boost, sensor slot and all those munitions slots? Three shields and six hull? Most expensive pilot is 27 points?

Sorry, I am all about that bass and that ship is one beautiful big girl.

Couldn't you level the exact same complaint against the Assault Gunboat not to mention a plethora of other ships in the game? the moldy crow hardly has a huge list of apperances

If it was a good video game, I think the sentiment would be different.

I never really played Galactic Battlegrounds and I don't think I ever saw the TIE Interdictor. Looks badass to me.

If it was a good video game, I think the sentiment would be different.

...or if it had been in multiple good videogames, for that matter.

Videogames which shared a naming convention with this beloved miniatures game.

I'll just be using the Punisher dials/inserts/cards with my Shapeways Assault Gunboats that i'm ordering.

Easy, if stupidly expensive, fix. But i've given up waiting for my beloved Gunboats :P

Gunboats are extremely ugly IMO, would much rather have the Interdictor.

Would have preferred a TIE Oppressor.. But FFG's been really good with sating my SWG nostalgia with the Syck, Kihraxz and Decimator so I can't complain.

I think they just wanted to stick with a new bomber for empire since the rebels are getting one. I just want to know where the Scum designated bomber is? I am sure the Black Sun and Hutts would bomb their enemies into oblivion if given the chance.

The Assault Gunboat is not a TIE and they have never released a non-TIE small ship for Empire. So, good luck with that i don't expect to ever see it unless there is absoluteky zero left to release, and then... Perhaps!

But honestly i like the mechanics, price, statline! I am completely fine with it!

Since the model got 2 bomb droppers - but there are no rules to cover that -

FFG could have come up with the Tie Heavy Bomber instead, with only 2 ordnance pods.

But well - maybe this was not bombastic enough. So we got the Tie Interdictor with a different name.

I've all but given up on the Assault Gunboat. At this point, I don't think FFG is ever going to release a small base Imperial ship that isn't a TIE variant.

So... Can I have my TIE Avenger now, FFG? Pretty please?

Here's hoping...

No technically it was in 2-3 Videogames, but that does not really change things.

4 videogames, actually. And a number of novels and sourcebooks.

The Assault Gunboat is not a TIE and they have never released a non-TIE small ship for Empire.

Yet.

Gunboats are extremely ugly IMO, would much rather have the Interdictor.

Not so much ugly as they look like a mini-van - hardly an intimidating presence on the battlefield

Tsk, tsk, what a waste of an opportunity to use a picture of Eagle 5.

Everyone goes for that - I wanted to be different

Of course, if you think this bad boy looks like a mini van, then I dread to think what your courier's uniforms are like

The TIE Interdictor was only seen in one videogame, along with the heavy Y-wing. Some things are best left forgotten.

The XG-1 was seen in5 or 6. The TIE Defender was only seen in 4, and it spawned a lego set and micromachine toy.

(XG1 - X-wing, TIE Fighter, XvT, X-wing Alliance, Mysteries of the spliff).

(TIE Defender - TIE Fighter, X-wing Alliance, SW Supremacy / Rebellion, Empire at war: Forces of Corruption).).

To me both ships represent a time period of Star Wars cultural supremacy, the pre-prequel area where lucasarts could do no wrong.

GBG doesn't do this.

Other ships from the games:

Tie Phantom: (Rebel Assault 2, Empire at War: Forces of corruption).

HWK290: (Dark Forces, Dark forces 2 - Jedi knight).

Hey, these come from that same era, not including Empire at war.

Kihrax, Syck, Decimator - Star Wars Galaxies.

Any other ships that started out as being in the games? I don't think so but I accept my own fallibility.

YT2400 doesn't count, SOTE was a multimedia run, having comics and a tie in novel as well as the video game.

In the sense that the Lambda is a Space-Van, the Gunboat is a mini-van :)

A Heavily armoured for anti-zombie warfare with extra machineguns for thinning hordes minivan?

In the sense that the Lambda is a Space-Van, the Gunboat is a mini-van :)

Hmmm... I guess I can accept that particular analogy... *narrows eyes*

...so long as it is a gun and missile-filled mini van of DEATH.

I don't understand how a TIE Bomber with extra pods is unoriginal, but a Lambda with extra wings isn't.
