Some more custom ships

By Utar, in Star Wars: Armada

Would you ever consider making fighters in whatever scale you've made them for the Flurry's hangar? They'd obviously be incredibly small and not nearly as detailed as the FFG versions but you might give the scale purists something to spend their money on!

1/7000 scale fighters?

The X-wing would be 1.78 mm long. That may be a little too small to tell what it is.

Though, they did make a really tiny Enterprise ;)

Yeah if I ever decide I want to do Armada true scale I'd probably just make counters for the fighter squadrons. But I really really like the idea of corvette squadrons - use the same rules, but just put multiple models on one base.

Take my money Utar!

I have made 1/4222 scale fighters which are ridiculously small but it could be done for those you want to go there. There are also 1/2256 scale fighters which are not quite as small but still difficult to work with.

1/4222 scale (average fighter 2-3mm):

1/2256 scale (average fighter 4-6mm):

These may look like the same size as the 4222s above but thats because the are both on scaled versions of the flurry hangar (4222 and 2256)

Any chance you could take a side by side shot of the Armada / 4222 / 2256 ?

Though at 1/7000 an X-wing would barely be 2 mm, and an A wing would be a speck

Are you going to post either of those up in FUD on Shapeways?

I can try to get some 4222 pics; they would not work on shapeways, I printed them on that little platform you can see and cast them in resin. In resin you can "peel" them off with a razor knife but in the original FUD they would break apart.

I don't have any 2256 fighters, they are made by another modeler (Good guy) and they are already on shapeways:

Carrack, Star Galleon, Tartan and Lancer are now up on Shapeways. They are cheaper in resin if anyone is interested shoot me a note.

The pics are of the resin models? They look amazing, especially the Carrack.

Do you have any plans to make any Golan defense platform or any of the XQ series platforms?

Yes, resin casts of the same ones as on shapeways printed in frosted ultra detail.

Thanks for all the information in this topic. Altough I'm kind of fine with the size of the capital ships (I always felt post-original trilogy they increased the size difference between ships too much, while in the movies the smaller ships seemed bigger and the larger ships seemed smaller compared to the now documented sizes) I dislike the supersized fighters in armada.

So I'm aiming to replace my armada fighters with tiny versions, 12 on a single fighter base. I recently ordered a sample of Studio Bergstrom's not-starwars 'Scythe Empire' fleetscale fighters, which I received last week and they look excellent although the tie-fighter proportions are a bit off. They are metal models which is quite nice though.

I just ordered a set of j_roncho's 1/2256 Tie Fighters and the 1/2256 Imperial Shuttle Tydirium, I'm curious how they will compare to the Bergstrom models. will post feedback on how they are when I get them. :)

That will be one very expensive piece considering the size of the Golan. :(

The Golan I wouldn't be too bad, but it would probably have to wait until wave 2 to get the actual size of the ISD. The II and III would be quite expensive. The XQ series of platforms though are the size of the Victory so those could be done sooner.

Yes, the Golans would be very expensive if they were as big as the capital ships of the same size. I knew Mel was working some XQ platforms. There are so many models that would be good addition I try to focus on different ones then the ones Mel is doing.

Mel just posted his up right after I posted this.

The XQ2 and XQ1 models would be of particular interest, representing the more general and aesthetically pleasing ones.

The XQ2 seems to be the most representative of the class. There's a smooth-bottom variant that appeared on the cover of the Krytos trap, and it seems to be the poster model for the cutscenes:

I do like the XQ2-4 arm styles better than the XQ-5 that mel has.

Is there anyway I could order Six of the V-Wings in Frosted Extreme Detail?

Yes, no problem.

Dreadnaught is up with the medium flight stand keyhole (thanks Mel!). In a few days I will confirm the size of the Wave 1 ships and adjust the dreadnaught size if necessary

Been waiting for one of these for a long time. Thank you! Should I wait on a resize?

Utar,

I saw your post on your website with the ship comparison. Great post! Thank you for that. A question though: looking at it, the Bulk Cruiser, Drednought, Assault Frigate MkI, and Bayonette are all in the near constant 1/7000, correct? Also, didn't you have a 1/7000 Gladiator of your own at one time?

Thanks!

No most of those ships are larger than 1/7000 scale in the 2000-5000 scale range. I think we should start a separate forum thread on the 1/7000 scale fleet; I just haven't had time yet. I know horsepire has started a discussion on 2256 scale fighters which is related because I think he (and I) are looking for a good size fighter to go with a 1/7000 scale fleet. I will get to re-sizing my old Gladiator for 7000 size at some point.

Oh, what? Utar? Messaged you on Ebay I think it was about a Broadside.

Based on getting the Wave 1 ships in hand, I've re-assessed the sizes of some of my custom ships. I copied Mel's idea and posted some overhead comparison pics of all the ships related to the FFG minis at the beginning of this post. Based on this I've shrank a couple of the mid-sized ships (500-700 meters). The Dread, Escort Carrier, and Strike Cruiser are updated on shapeways. I will get the assault frigate mark I variants on shapeways over the next couple days. I know they are pricey in FUD, within a month or two I should have them in resin which is less expensive.

Assault Frigate Mark I is up on shapeways in Frosted detail. I know it's rather expensive but I ordered the master for resin casting and I also printed some of the bigger ships in White Strong and Flexible. If the WSF versions come out okay I will offer them also.
