By DariusAPB, in X-Wing

I just want to say that within 72 hours I've went from extremely bummed about wave 7 to superlatively excited.

Ok, so yeah I stand by my comment that the TIE/PUN would never be my first choice, but the fact you've put SLAM's into the game fills me with missileboat hope.(and therefore cygnus assault gunboat).

On top of that the new warheads and ordnance look great, the 2 point extra munitions could really be exactly what is needed - who knows, a royal guard tie bomber with 2 modifications in the distant future might give us tie bombers with extra munitions and munitions failsafe.

The YV666 deploying a Z-95... lots of interesting mechanics for future custom games there.

The K-wing has a very B-17 look and feel and with the E-wing also in the game I am tentatively excited.

I can't wait to see more!

extra munitions

...is a Torpedo, not a modification.

No extra munitions for X-W, A-W, TIE/x1 or Z-95s, but bombers can combo it with Munitions Failsafe.

I'm glad you're excited! I am too!

Maybe this will make you even more excited:

Extra Munitions is a Torpedo upgrade card, not a Modification. You can take it and Munitions Failsafe already, and you still have [Torpedo] [Missile] [Missile] [bomb] to play with!

That's EVEN BETTER!

It makes dedicated bombers, Y-wings, B-wings TIE Bombers etc actually good!

WAVE SEVEN SUCKS!!!!!!!

Wave 7 is interesting, it's different. It's got so much potential and change. It'll shake up the games snowglobe.

For that alone we should be thankful.

Ok so the ships are.... weak ships, very low tier. But they are the ships for FFG's goals.

look what we have:

Scum ship that fits the X-wing points area. Check. They needed that.

Potential carrier mechanic? many here begged for that.

Loads of ordinance related goodness. check.

Extra Munitions is crap. :(

Extra Munitions is crap. :(

Not convinced that it is.

Alright.....I should say that Extra Munitions for generic Tie Bombers is crap. It's great for elites that can do cool combos. Examples are Krassis w/ Slave 1 title. Emmon is happy. Things like that.

Scimitar Bombers w/ Extra Munitions get double their bomb loads, but their missiles/torpedoes are still crap. You just get to shoot them twice.

Weak? I don't know. It depends a bit on the dials, but the Kirraxz and the Hound's Tooth have reasonably solid baselines. The K-wing and Punisher will work well with bombs at least, and It looks like Redline and the PS 6 K-wing pilot will be decent torpedo/missile carriers.

By weak I don't so much mean weak in a power level point of view. I mean weak like the sun crusher kind of weak.

Very little cool background. All mechanics, no... jje ne sais quoi?

The punisher could have been the missile boat or scimitar.

The K-wing could have been something new and cool that wasn't a K-wing.

The kirahz could have been one of the cooler marks of kirahz.

I'll get used to the ships, I love some of the new mechanics already.

To Heychadwick: Generics are quite weak apart from swarms in the last few waves it seems.

Hmm... B-wing with Proton Torpedoes and extra munitions is 1 point less than an HLC B-wing. Is this practical? For a blue or dagger, I don't think so. For Nera Dantels, possibly.

What about missiles? 5 points for 2 Ion Pulse missiles, 6 points for two Cluster Missiles, 7 for two Homing or Assault Missiles?

To me, it looks like extra munitions isn't going to work for low PS pilots, but it might give Named Pilots with an ordnance focus the buff they need.

Extra munitions means ordinance thst is good continues to be good and ordinance that's bad continues to be bad. Bombs are an acception due to the multiple pilot abilities and seperate card uogrades that help it. Certain munitions were not played because of the cost but because Action economy made it unliklely to do much if any damage while unmodified. Things like the basic proton torpedoes as iconic as they are why would you ever take them? This wave was a bomber not ordinance fix. The side benefit is we will see more ordinance on tables which should give the game more variety.

Exactly what Gungo said...except that Tie Bombers always were ordnance carriers. I guess it changes them to be....Tie Bombers. Just disappointing. They could've done something to make ordnance better...at least for Bombers.

Don't get so disappointed yet, we've only seen 1 card pertaining to ordnance in the preview.

True, some ordnance, proton torpedoes, APT's, concussion missiles etc. The old cards themselves need to be improved. But at least this is a start.

May we see good things.

Hey, maybe those plasma torpedoes are decently priced damage dealer bombs that can be taken readily in pairs.

Too late....

You can see all the types of cards that are in the blisters. There are EPTs, illicits, bombs, and a few more ordnance. There is nothing there that would effect ordnance, with the exception of EPTs. Those, though, don't work with generics.

What I see is the role of the Tie Bomber goes from ordnance carrier to a bomber. Sure, it's called Tie Bomber, but it really wasn't one before. If you like the Tie Bomber being played the way it's been written to run now, you won't see much improvement in the new cards. If you want to find a new use for Tie Bombers then you might be OK with some options. Having one as a control vehicle is one of those, but it totally changes the role of the Tie Bomber to what it's been so far.

Yeah that is what I am thinking too, there are a lot of cards to see yet.

:)

yes, as much as I do not like this wave, we have not seen the new ordnance cards yet. there might be some "generation 2 " ordnance there that will make the bomber viable in it's intended role. Time will tell.

PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME HOW YOU KNOW WHAT THE NEW ORDNANCE IS

For all we know, it could be stuff that synergizes well for generics. It might be stuff that doesn't spend the TL e.g.

Yup there could be some cool new boom-boom-thing that just happens to be great on TIE Bombers and Y-Wings.

:D

I wish people would stop comparing one of the most beautiful strategic Bombers ever made to a nonsensical comic book rendering of a Starfighter that looks like a spade shovel with wings.

Who would of thought that ffg would be able to do there jobs well. Chadwick, this most likely won't be the only fix they give. They are is still next wave and any aces type pack they make.
