Appreciation: Fine quality models

By Norsehound, in Star Wars: Armada

A small game today made me think about the upcoming Imperial class. I just wanted to make a small post about how awesome it is to have models at this scale, widely available, and marvelously sculpted.

X-Wing miniatures have always been beautiful but I'm more of a capital ship fan than a starfighter fan. Even when I was a kid I didn't see many models of Star Destroyers or bigger ships for Star Wars, and when I was a teen the only things out there really were resin kits on starshipmodeler (I also wasn't that big into hobby modelling then, but I digress....)

It's already a good time to be a Star Wars fan at the cusp of a new wave of content and adventure. But knowing that we're getting some very high quality depictions of favored capital ships at our fingertips and already assembled... it's wonderful. I'm eager to get my hands on the Imperial class, fix the paint scheme to my liking, and drive it across the board to smash my enemies with it.

It'll be great if I can get a Imperial + 2x Victory list with some decent fighter cover as a main list, because that's the epitome of the Imperial Navy experience I wanted to have since this game was announced.

And regardless of your feelings for the Super Star Destroyer, if they do make one (or other ships that large) It's going to be (!!!!)'ing beautiful. Just with everything else they are going to give us for this game.

I completely agree with you! My favorite ships in the Star Wars universe are the B- wing and the Nebulon-B, and it's great to have amazing models of both. A little wash on the frigate was necessary, as many have pointed out, but now it looks fantastic.

That Victory though... even people who don't seem to be too keen on Armada change their tune when they see them on the table. I can only imagine what the Imperial class will do.

And even if your ISD + 2x VSD vision doesn't fit in a list "officially," all of my home games will be capped in a way that would allow it! :)

Yeah to be honest, even if I didn't play the game, I'd of still gotten a ISD and a Home One expansion just for display.

Same here. The ISD and Home One look especially good. Even if I couldn't find anybody to play with I'd be happy to have them on my shelf for display.

One of my friends has all his X-Wing minis on shelf display (when the cats are not chewing on them.....) and they're great, but there's something about capital ships on display that really makes the vision even better. Imagine if someone could light them!

I might have too, although some of the core set paint jobs would give me pause for though.

That's really been hit or miss. Mine don't look that bad, and all 3 or 4 boxes at the LGS were all about the same.

The VSD looks fine, the only thing the Neb and CR-90 need is a wash, which is really so simple that you can hardly even call it painting.

Yess... I have seen them. They look amazing!

But what I mean is crew and window lighting. It'll be harder for sure, but that would make for a spectacular display!

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, that'd be especially awesome to see on an Imperial Star Destroyer or Home One when they arrive.
