One nice twist about wave 7 - very nearly no EPT slots

By xanderf, in X-Wing

Have to say, that's a nice change.

From the perspective of someone that likes a challenge building a list, having a great pilot for your list, that would be PERFECT with this one EPT...that you can't take...because he can't take EPTs...is interesting. It forces players to look for list synergy elsewhere, or settle for a 'less than perfect' build and making do with what they have. VERY much like that.

And in this wave...

Only 1 of the unique SV-666 pilots has an EPT, the other does not (the generics don't)

None of the 4 K-Wing pilots have an EPT.

None of the 4 TIE Punisher pilots have an EPT.

One of the Kihraxz pilots does have an EPT, we can assume the two generics don't...no idea on the second, though.

Building lists around this wave will be...different.

No EPTs, but we've got crew slots for days for all the Tacticians.

yeah, loaded for days on those ships. =/

its almost as if they were like... meh. whatever the eff you wanna put on this ship, put it on! traps galore.

No EPTs, but we've got crew slots for days for all the Tacticians.

But without any potential for VI, it means you can easily arrange a definite PS advantage.

Highest K-Wing you can see is PS8, next down is PS6.

Highest TIE Punisher is PS7, next down is PS6.

Only Bossk can get up to PS9 in the SV-666, burning his EPT to do it - the other unique SV-666 pilot is PS6.

That makes PS7/PS8/PS9 suddenly a very viable place to be, and still let you use your own EPT without having to worry about pushing up to 10 or 11 to have any kind of meaningful movement superiority in the game.

Hang on. All this time people have been complaining -- loudly -- about the fact that the Rebel Y-wings lack EPTs, and suddenly we're happy to have ships without them?

Make up your minds, people!

One of the Kihraxz pilots does have an EPT, we can assume the two generics don't...no idea on the second, though.

Because the faction that's currently lagging in the arms race needs a kick in the nads.

When the Y-wings were alone, it was something to complain about, now that other ships have been included it's become part of the design space. No mystery there.

Yeah, this - when it was only the Y-Wing hit so brutally with the idiot bat, and there were not the variety of other modifications, turrets, torpedoes, !bombs!, etc we have now...the lack of EPT really burned and limited the Y-Wing build choices a lot more than other factions.

The game has expanded a lot, now, to the point that the Y-Wing even without an EPT has enough interesting options on the table to make their build choices compellingly "different".

And there is enough design space, now, for new things to come out with the same limitations and it works.
