Speculative Hounds Tooth Title question

By Mace Windu, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I'm sure this will be answered in the fullness of time from FFG but I would like to ask what everyone’s opinion is on the points destroyed issue with the Hounds Tooth Title.

I feel comfortable assuming that if you destroy the HT you collect the points as it were however there is a small but not insignificant situation that could arise where both players have destroyed all of their opponents starting ships but there remains the ‘Pup’ on the table.

Is it a draw? Is it a win (or modified win) for the player with the Pup but MOV is 100/100?

Thoughts?

That should be resolved once we see the Pup's pilot card.
I'm guessing it costs 0, or possibly that it reduces the points-destroyed of the Hound's Tooth by its point-cost.

Otherwise, it could very easily be a 116 point fleet vs a 100 point fleet, and that ain't cool.

I mean I guess you are paying 6 points up front for the title that may do nothing, so your kinda half paying for it but still.

Im sure FFG will clarify it in good time, but I like the concept very much.

The tournament rules state that a match can end when "All of one player's ships are destroyed. The player with at least one ship remaining immediately earns a Match Win."

Since the Nashtah Pup is a ship in every respect I can think of (ship card, base, miniature, dial, hull value) it looks like a lone Pup can still carry the game, and with a full win at that!

Unless something specifically on the pilot card or an upcoming FAQ contradicts this, of course.

Since the Nashtah Pup is deployed when the Hound's Tooth is destroyed, it only comes into play after the Tooth has been added to my opponent's MOV.

In the unlikely scenario that I win by tabling my opponent with no ships remaining but the Pup, it would indeed be a full win for me with 100 MOV for both players.

My guess would be it will either function like Vorpal says, or the pup will be worth the 6 points the upgrade costs. usually the upgrades are destroyed when the ship they are on is, but in this case, it's almost like the upgrade is still there. maybe.

I'd guess the Pup doesn't actually cost any points, since you're already paying 6 for the title. Destroying it doesn't add to MoV, but it still must be destroyed to table the other guy.

That could still be an issue with trigger resolution, though. How do you resolve two situations occurring at the same time (end of game, deploying a ship) when one of them ends the game, and the other keeps it going? Does the player with initiative get to choose which order they resolve in, and could that prevent the game from ending? And then there's the fact that the ship isn't yet removed from the table, so there's a simultaneous attack-like situation at play.

You only check for game end after the End phase, and the Nashtah Pup is deployed before removing the Hound's Tooth, which happens immediately upon receiving damage cards enough to depstroy it. So the Pup is on the board way before you check to see if the game ends. So I don't think the two situations occur at the same time.

You only check for game end after the End phase

I'm pretty sure that isn't true, but I can't double check right now.

After completing the End phase, the round is over. If

neither player has destroyed all of his opponent’s ships,

a new round begins, starting with the Planning phase.

Last paragraph of the section End Phase. Followed by the section Winning the Game that clarifies a few corner cases like missions and both sides destroying each other. People will probably just read teh last section and think you win as soon as all enemy ships are destroyed, but you actually have to finish the round.

I am pretty sure the pup will be part of the hounds tooth. So if you do not destroy it you get no points. I think of it like the chewbacca crew. You can do lethal damage to the falcon...but then chewie triggers. In this case however it changes your ship into another one. It is a strange case though, so I am sure they will address it.

They have addressed it, they just haven't released it yet. At this stage we're all running on speculation.

IMO

the 6 points for the pup was paid for on the hounds tooth, so if it is still on the table, so is the hounds tooth.

I believe you will need to destroy the pup to collect the points for the hound

My bet is that as long as the Pup is alive the Hounds Tooth's points are still alive. That'd be how I'd go about it.
